basically, it's like a giant pillow case, except you put a comforter inside it instead. it's easy to put it on and it's cool because you can change the look of your comforter without actually getting a new one. I have one comforter and 4 duvet covers that i change when i wanna change the look of our room :o) hope that description helped :o)

Duvet cover should not be that expensive. It is like a cheaper way to create different looks rather than buying a ton of different comforters.

I agree with you that it should be a inexpensive and easy way to change the look of your room however most duvet covers tend to be expensive unless you buy them at Ikea (where most of mine are from).

They def have cheaper ones. .it also depends on what type of comforter you have. . for most of the down comforters - you basically can't get away without having one b/c they are meant to be covered. . some other comforters don't need the covering. .. they are also nice b/c they are easy to wash and slip back on. ..

Re: dumbb ? #2 lol
I used to have a duvet cover, and it drove me crazy, bc I had an issue with keeping the comforter underneath looking neat. Just my opinion. I had a hard time finding a comforter bc everything I liked ended up being a duvet cover and I refused to buy another one
