duvet covers and shifting

duvet covers and shifting

my mom being the seamstress that she is used to make our duvet covers and would sew in ribbon to the corners to keep the duvet in place...

since DH and I bought a king...mom hasn't made me any covers...therefore i had to go out and buy...the first one was cheap and great....it stayed no problem...fit like a glove...

but now...in our new bedding the duvet moves away from the shape of the cover (do to my incessant night kicking according to DH)....

am I going to have to sew in ribbon like mom, or is there another way (before I go out and buy the ribbon)

I use a safety pin (one in each corner) - but the ribbon idea sounds interesting - how does it work - what do you tie it to?

I use a safety pin in each corner also. But I like the ribbon idea. How does that work?

Ok...so I guess you guys do use something to secure it...

my mother would sew in ribbon, looped (so the two ends get sewed to the fabric), to the duvet (white ribbon) and to the inside corners of the cover (matching color)...then when you put it on you tie the ribbons together...

I will say that sometimes the ribbons slipped undone...but it did the job most of the time

I don't use anything but that's a great idea. My comforter is always shifting on the top - I'm constantly shaking it back from the bottom to the top so that it's even. I guess it just slides with gravity

OK...I was trying to get out of work...sewing is not my best area ( to the dismay of my mom), but I will be off to get some ribbon today...

I'm glad you brought this up because I had stopped using my duvet covers because of this!! I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be using something to fasten with!!

My Pottery Barn duvet never has that problem. You might need to make sure that the conforter and the duvet are the proper size.

Michele - my duvet is from PB too and it's the same size as the comforter....I think it's just a common thing with down comforters.

Re: duvet covers and shifting

I think its common as well...since growing up we always had those ribbons...and my mom would custom make the covers

but I do have one cover that doesn't shift...its just not the best quality...imagine that...

They sell duvet cover clips that are supposed to keep it in place. I think Bed Bath and Beyond has them. I have to get them because I have the same 'shifting' problem.

If you get them, let me know how they work. I think they are only like $2 or something.

I am going to get them. I hope they work.

Re: duvet covers and shifting

OK...day 2 and shifting isn't as bad....but I did realize that the cover is a little bigger than the duvet - I don't know why...they are both kings!!!

in BBB they didn't have the round ones I posted above...instead they had little clamps...but they still work...
