only really need to pay for yourselves

if you have the money - accomadations for bridal party and family is great but not necessary

as posted above- just pay for the ceremony, recepetion meal, a a dinner the night before and a brunch - thats if you are not at an all inclusive

I thought they only pay for themselves with the understanding that many people may not be able to make it....

If you are only paying for yourselves what kind of gifts would you expect people to give you? I am just asking because my sister is planning a DW and she doesn't want people to feel obligated to give a large gift if they have to pay a lot of money to go to the wedding.

I would think only for themselves. If they wanted they could say no gifts required. In that their guests being their is their present.

I went to two destination weddings...they were cousins so I still gave the same amount as I normally would. I absolutely loved going to both of them, it was a mini vacation with all of my family. We had a blast, one was in Shelter Island and one in Newport.

i went to one in the bahamas- i ended up giving pretty similar gift - but i planned that as my vactaion for that year so it was not that bad for me - it was before all my friends started getting married - all of us stayed for a week and had a blast - it was an all inclusive - you knew what you were paying once you got there

I think the only requirement is for you to pay for yourselves. If you're saving a ton of money by not doing it here and want to put that towards your guest count - by all means you can pay the hotel and or airfare for your BP.

I think most pay only for themsleves but with the understanding that many may not come. I think if you have the money chip in for your immediately family and bp if you have.
