Don't they say when you die in your dream, you die in real life?
WELL, this weekend I had a horrific nightmare. Not only did I die, but so did DH, and my siblings. It was very REAL, and we even were at the gates of Heaven, waiting to be judged.
This FREAKED me out. Anyone has similar nightmares?
I guess the up-side is that I'm here, alive and kicking....

Re: Dying in dreams.............
I have died NUMEROUS times in my dreams.
I've even 'been dead' in my dreams for what felt like forever... just total blackness, after the incident that killed me, thinking 'I can't be dead, I can't be dead, wake up wake up wake up...' (I did eventually, obviously!)
I've also been killed in my dreams.
I've also killed MYSELF in my dreams.
I have verrrryy violent and bloody dreams sometimes.
So you're not alone honey! Yes they are disconcerting, but I am so used to the bizarre and intense dreams that I have, that most of the time they are entertaining.
They say that such intense dreams like what you had are a 'message' that you should really be paying attention to something in your life... I only wish I knew what that something was!
If you ever want to talk about dreams in more detail, just FM me (this goes for everyone). I've always wanted to participate in a dream study because mine are so off the wall.
Don't worry!!!

Re: Dying in dreams.............
Death & Dreams.
Even before 9/11 I had them.
Mostly if I die in my dreams there's some subconscious that is still there. Either a frightened me, a confused me or a logical me.
BUt I'm still there in a way. I've died in dreams that were dreams in my dreams, if that makes sense. I fell asleep in my dreams and dreamt that I died.
The ones that really scare me aren't so much the ones where I die and stay asleep but the ones that wake me up. There's such a cold silence in my mind and then *Bam* awake. Those happened mostly after 9/11. The infamous all-knowledgeable 'They' say that it is totally normal. Wish 'They' had to live through it as much as I do.
Falling in my dreams wakes me up to. Such as jumping off a tall building on fire (my personal reoccurence) or even slipping on a step.
Death of my family members is always disturbing. I have kid brothers and sisters. Very disturbing.
But we are all here.
Yes, I believe Death in a dream signifies a change that needs to happen or has happened. Something i am subconsciously trying to avoid.
I had lots of nightmares as a child. More than normal. Saw specialists. Learned how to escape my dreams. Mostly it works, but it's been so long since I've been a child that some of those old tricks are hard to recall.
the whole dying in your dreams...dream interpretation comes from Freud...and there is not too much weight given to Freud in modern psychology.
most believe that dreams are left over thoughts/thoughts from the day and having no meaning or baring on your life

Killing in dreams
Somehow, this never scares me. I love adventure games and such so killing in dreams almost seems natural. I away of stress relief. I've got some doosies!
Actually the act of violence usually prevents my death in my dreams. Im one tough cookie to kill if I know it's coming.
To this one dream really got me good. I came face to face (figuratively speaking) with death. I started trying to scream while I was asleep. Death put a thing over my mouth and I couldnt quiet scream anymore. My boyfriend at the time had to wake me up. He said he heard my first scream and woke up to find me thrashing with my mouth open making odd moaning sounds. I think I scared him more than me.
I usually try to fight back. I hate to lose in my dreams!

Don't take this dream literally. If you dream of dying it represents that you can't cope with your problems. This is a typical anxiety dream. See it in emotional terms. These dreams can also signify change and new beginnings.

Re: Dying in dreams.............
I wouldn't worry too much. The only dreams I ever remember are the ones that seem real (both good and bad) and none of them have ever happened. A lot of times it may be based on something you have seen during the day or something that is bothering you. I am sure that you and your whole family will be just fine.

Re: Dying in dreams.............
Xelindrya... we need to TALK!
I have had a VERY similar dream to what you described, only death was a huge face on the side of a stone wall. It wouldn't let me pass unless I agreed to join him, so I did... and I hated myself so much for agreeing that after I got out of the building I picked up a sword (it was all very medieval 'Lord of the Rings' looking in the dream) and I plunged it through my heart. Fade to black and all of that. In the dreams where I have been killed I am usually the same person.. a young Asian women who gets assassinated. If I had the talent to draw really well I could completely describe what 'I' look like. I have recurring dreams about being her quite often.
I've also had 'dreams within dream' where I dream that I am awake (and usually telling someone about the dream) when in fact I'm still dreaming. Those make me feel all confused when I really do wake up.
Have you ever had lucid dreams? I assume you have from the studies you mentioned... Where you can actually take control? I used to be able to do it a lot when I was younger, but only on rare occasions now.
Dreams are fascinating. Even when they are frightening, I'd still never give them up or trade my crazy dreams for anything!! I think (and have been told) that some of my dream topics (or just the severity of them in general) have to do with my Native American heritage (I'm 25%...). I wonder if that's true and how I could find out more about that...
Hey, thanks Sassy for starting my favorite topic

Re: Dying in dreams.............
My family is very superstitious when it comes to dreams. If you dream about death its the complete opposite. A new life will come into your world (baby, marriage, loved one) or something majorly big (positive) will happen. I have never died in my dreams but have had people in my life die in my dreams.

Re: Dying in dreams.............
Thanks ladies, I know I'm not alone. Once I had a dream that DH (then FH) was decapitated defending me from a group of hoods ANother where my bro and sister crashed and died. One about my dad. So forth and so forth..................
I have to admit last night took the cake. I didn't share every detail here b/c it was so disturbing..........
I will try my best to stay calm..........
I usually fight in my dreams too - defendng myself and always come out alive. Last night there was no defense, it happenned too fast.
in the past, I have had interesting dreams of birth and later on saw a direct link to something happennig in real life. I do try and analyze the dreams b/c I feel there is a message somewhere.
I know the death doesn't mean death will happen, I just want to know what my dream is trying to tell me. Hmmmmmmmm

Re: Dying in dreams.............
Xelindrya and Lunatrek, I would love to know more about becoming involved IN my dreams. Also I know what you mean about the dream in a dream thing. That happens to me A LOT.

Re: Dying in dreams.............
I've never died in my dreams. I always wake up before anything really bad happens to me. Weird.
