I am planning on having an engagement party this summer. Who usually hosts these parties? the parents of the bride or groom or the couples themselves? Also, who do you invite? just close family or aunts uncles, cousins ets?

I decided not to only because #1, we were so busy with everything and #2 we are getting married only 7 months after getting engaged. It just seemed like too much in a short amount of time. I would say go fot it though.
I dont know who usually throws the party. I thought the couple did.

we are having one... FILs are throwing it for us. We are just having family and close friends...

FMIL and FFIL are throwing one for us...we live outside of NY (FH's family is local to us) so it is almost like a shower for those guests who wouldn't be able to get to the one being held in NY...

I am having one and my mom is throwing it for us...I think traditionally its the brides parents or family but now it doesn't have to be

We're having one & FIL's are throwing it for us. We'll probably have about 100 people (or we are inviting that many).

My FIL's are throwing the party for us - but I am not sure if this is standard. They are also giving us a lot of support for the wedding as well because my parents can not contribute and we could not afford a wedding ourselves.

We are having an EParty, actually it's next Saturday! FH and I paid for it. We've invited our parents, close family and friends. We're having 60 people there.

I am having the e-party and for us, both sets of parents are hosting the party. We're inviting close family and friends. We are trying to keep the number down to 50-60, but it may be difficult because my family is quite large and a lot of them live in the area. I know some people don't want children at weddings, but at our e-party children are very much welcome (and will be welcome at the weddings as well)
