E-Party and gifts?

E-Party and gifts?

We are having our eparty next weekend at our house. It is a BBQ setting, currently the count for people attending is 40, but the RSVP is Sat, Aug 16 My question is: If we get gifts are we supposed open the gifts during the party or after? I am not sure what is appropiate. I know at a shower you open during (I am not having a shower). So what is the appropiate way to do this?

ettiquette says afterwards....but my mother didn't agree with this...she said that my aunts would want to see me open them...so we waited as long as possible...and did it at the end...when other guests left

open afterwards and send thank you cards
not everyone may bring a gift(although they probably will).... but it should be done after

Per Emily Post: THe purpose is not to get presents for and E- party, its to celebrate the Engagement. I think depending on how many present you get, if everyone gives you something, its okay to open them, if you only got a few presents, i wouldn't open them, it might make the people that didn't get you presents feel bad. Just remember to send the TY's out.

I would say definitely afterwards for an e-party.

we thought afterwards for an e-party also! but since it is the first wedding for both of our families and everyone was excited and everyone brought us a gift - THEY insisted we open them in front of everyone! we actually tried not to - but the guests were demanding it be done in front of them - so we had to!
i guess it's whatever the guests want!!

Re: E-Party and gifts?

we got so many presents at our eng party and the presents seemed like wedding presents- it wouldn't have been feasible to do it then. we opened them up a couple of days after and it took about 2 hours.

plus it gets boring for people- in my opinion.
