It's a nice idea. We're not doing ours in a park, but at FH's parents house. They live in one of these communities which has a common area field with a gazebo, which is where we'll be having the party.

that seems very nice and comfy. it's not corny...it's just the same as having it in someone's backyard.

I love that idea! I don't think its corny, I think its great. People will definitely enjoy themselves and you can even set up some fun activities like softball or kickball if you wanted a really laid back fun type of event!

Re: e-party at a park
thats a nice idea but i would look into it and what the rules are for parties in parks because i remember you needed to get permission from the parks department.
however if you are thinking of doing it around the summer time...you can always do it at Sunken Meadow Park..they have a picnic area with grills and tables so you wouldnt have to rent anything...and the beach is there too.

I'm thinking of doing the same exact thing... I've been researching parks but am waiting to check a few out before I make my final decision. We're going to use the picnic areas b/c it's not allowed to BBQ anywhere else.

Re: e-party at a park
Seems like a wonderful idea, but there are some things to consider... Will the park allow it? Renting of tables and chairs wont be entirely cheap either. And what if it rains? I know for sure that renting a tent can cost a fortune! Who will be cooking all the food? Will you be catering any food? That can raise the price too...
Lots of things to think about... I love the idea, but I think it would be better suited in someones backyard kinda thing if you want it to be outside and inexpensive

Re: e-party at a park
Not a corny idea at all...
Just keep in mind that of all the things you can control, you can't control the weather and llike MrsMazz said, renting a tent can sometimes cost almost as much as a wedding!
Do you know anyone with a big house?
We're having a small family BBQ/pool party at my sister's house cause she has the big backyard and pool and she also has a big enough house that if it rains, we can fit comfortably in the kitchen, dining room, and living room.

We are doing a bbq but at the house. I would say the park is great if you don't have room in your backyard. I wanted a casual feeling and I think that a bbq is a great way to do it.

Re: e-party at a park
I was thinking Eisenhower park.. or Astoria park.. But ill prefer one close to valley stream. I guess i will look into V.S state park. I havent looked at nay parks yet. Yeah i know thats a good point. well My FH friends will cook. Im hoping they have enough chairs and tables. I wish i knew someone with a big house that i feel comfortable asking but i dont. I really hope it doesnt rain or its not extremely HOT..Should i register before? I have been engaged for 1 year and i dont want my family to think im doing this for gifts. I just want my fam and his fam to meet.. Its going to be so weird because we are from 2 different backgrounds.. I feel nervous thinking about it

I love that idea. Don't forget the wiffle ball game. Anything that gets people interacting in a natural, comfortable, fun way is the perfect backdrop for a party. Have fun!!!!
