E-Party Dilemma....

I've been on the fence about having an e-party. FH really wants one, but to me it seems like it might be more of a hassle to plan it due to so many things. First, we live in Maryland and all of my family lives in NY. FH's family is scattered around Maryland, except for his sister and her family that live in NJ and his Dad who lives in PA. Some of his friends live here, while others live around the country. I have a few friends here, but most are on LI and some are scattered across Upstate NY. So, as you can see we have wedding guests everywhere. I don't want to have an e-party for the sake of gifts, but I want to have one so that everyone can meet with each other and so that we can also celebrate. FH and I have been together for almost 5 years and our families barely know each other because of the distance. Our problem is that we just don't know where to have it. I want something simple, like a backyard bbq, but I don't know where, NY or MD. If we have it in MD, I doubt many people from NY would come besides my immediate family and if we have it in NY I doubt anyone in MD would come as well. Do we give up our hope for an e-party or come to some sort of compromise? Any help or advice you ladies could give me would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA!
