E-Party Guilt...I know this is stupid

Alright my family decided to throw us an e-party this Sat. at our house. Nothing formal my grandmas cooking there will be a keg, frozen drink machine...lots to dring and eat. I DID NOT want any gifts, i was told not to mention that on the invite so i didnt, we havent registered because than it would have looked like we expected gifts, so i just let it be known thru word of mouth not to bring gifts. The problem, I have already recieved Very generous checks from people who cant even make it to the party. I just feel greedy, ya know. I kno how expensive weddings can be for guests between a shower, and the wedding itself. We are paying for the wedding ourselves so it will be put towards that, but I know if i feel this guilty now after recieving 3 cards ill feel worse after the actual party.

OK I know i sound like a real head case here but maybe someone out there has felt the same way. Im really loooking forward to my party I gues i just wish people werent so generous (like i said im a nut case!!!)
I guess this is just a vent, but pleae let me know if anyone has ever felt the same way.
Thanks,
Vanessa

PS-im gonna go take my Prozac now!!! (JK)

i felt the same way - we had a really informal e-party in my parent's ackyard - only family and Bparty. But everyone brought so many gift and i felt so giolty because then i thought it looked like we were having the party just to get gifts.
but the thing is...weddings are happy times. and people like to give gifts to celebrate happy times. so as much as you feel guillty accepting gifts from people, they are giving them to you because they love you and are happy for you! so let them be happy.
I say all this, but i still feel terriblely guilty that my FH parents bought us ALL of our everyday dinnerware - every last piece of Fiestaware we registered for! It was a huge amount of money - but the looks ont hier faces when we opened everythign was priceless!
DOn't worry - you are wel-loved. there's nothing wrong with that.

i see where your coming from, but even mentioning no gifts, pretty much everyone will still give a gift, because they are congratulating you.. just focus on the party send out thank yous for the gifts received

I agree... i think that people would give gifts, even if they were told not to.. Just to express their congratulations and to bless you both... And later down the road, those checks add up and come in handy!!!
Just have fun and enjoy your E-party!!!

I agree too.. even if you say 'no gifts' people will give one if they are financially able to.

Just be gracious and send a really nice thank you!

I agree. I felt bad too, but we are paying for our own wedding too and we could REALLY use the money. Then I started thinking that people sent gifts before we even planned the e-party. As soon as they heard we were engaged. So figured I might as well have a party for them, people are going to give gifts anyway. Besides an engagement is a nice way to get a family togehter. Beats the wakes we always meet at.
