e-party hair help!!

e-party hair help!!

Our engagement party is Sunday. FH & I live in the Bronx, but the party is in Bellmore and we have to be at my parents' house in Merrick no later than 11.30am. My HUGE problem is that I REALLY want to look good but am terrible with hair!

I'd love to get my hair done for the day but it just doesn't fit into our plans. There's a hair place right near us but the only available appointment is when we need to leave here, pick up FSIL from college and then get to LI.

So basically...does anyone have any ideas for hair styles that even hair-illiterate people can pull off?? As I've grown it out for locks of love, the natural curl I used to have has fallen into waves. Very nice 99% of the time but too boring for the party. I'd like to look at least a little different from my usual everyday style.

Please help, you girls know so much about this stuff I know someone can help me!

Well, what are you wearing for you party? whats the style?

If you usually wear it curly/wavy, why don't you straighten or blow it out? Its not too high maintenance, but might be just different enough to amp up your look.

It's straightened a lot for work, and I since FH I work at the same school - even in the same classroom last semester lol - I want him to see me a little more polished. The other downside of growing my hair out is that it has zero volume now if it's straight. I have fine hair and it's a pain in my butt

I actually have to get a new dress tomorrow! Just tried the one I bought a month and a half ago on and it's too big...for once, I need to not lose weight lol. The style is going to be very boho/hippy chic though since I'm going straight to Anthropologie after we see some houses in the morning. Wish I knew how to french braid, I love that style with the side-braid.

Do you have a friend that is good with hair that can perhaps help you out?

Why don't you straighten it out and use a curling iron to make some curls then brush it through so it gives you a nice flowy wave.

No one that's available. I really want to stay away from the waves because for me that's a typical style. Guess it's going to be a ballerina bun or something.

Re: e-party hair help!!

I've done my own hair for different occasions and I am by no stretch of the imagination a hair stylist!

I've managed to do one style with a side part that was very pretty and kind of romantic, but also a little boho. (Weird description, I know, lol). I just parted my hair (side part) and braided the longer side and once I had a long enough braid, I pinned it back and made a messy bun to cover up the pins. Or if you don't want a messy bun, you can just pin the braid, bring the other side part of hair around to the back and maybe stick a fun hair pin in?

I also used to do one that was sort of like corn rows, but I basically separated my hair (again in a side part but you could do whatever you wanted) and I twisted the right section back in a tight twist and used two bobby pins to secure it. Then I did the same with the left section. Once both the twists are pinned up, I took all the remaining hair and made random twists and pinned them up...it was like a messy bunch of waves and curls, but looked so pretty. And then a ton of hairspray

My explanations probably ****** and I don't have pictures, but I hope you can get some ideas to use from all the ladies!

sounds like both of those styles would be right up my alley! and I totally understand your explanations, don't worry We're going out to look at 3 houses later but when we come back, I'm going to finish making my cake pops for the party and then play around with my hair, thank you so much!

Re: e-party hair help!!

I always do big hot rollers in my hair so it comes out with really romantic, big soft curls. Then I flip it upside down and spray it so it comes out really big. Sometimes, I pull the top up and use bobby pins to make a small poof in the front. I get tons of compliments on it, and it comes out like you had a stylist curl it. Just get the big hot rollers, and set your hair. Let the curlers cool and take them out.

If your style is boho/hippie then why dont you twist two pieces on the side of your hair? Like make pretend you were going to do a half up and half down and twist it instead or you can even do braids!...with waves that will look beautiful!

i love these! I wish I knew how to french braid, but maybe I can fake it by pre-braiding pieces and then pulling them back.

Thank you guys! Such a crazy week and all of a sudden I have to look fancy You've all definitely given me great idea. Gonna check out pinterest and see if it can teach me to french braid :)

Re: e-party hair help!!

What about a big headband of scarf? that way you can straighten or keep your waves, but the headband/scarf will dress-y it up a little bit.

I'm bad with hair as well.
Maybe get you flat iron and use it to curl your hair a bit more than your normal waves. If I can do it, I think anyone can. Lots of youtube tutorials

*wooops* this is an old post. my bad!
