FMIL is throwing us a e-party early this summer so we are starting to get the invites ready. Since we are having such a small wedding, FMIL can't invite her friends to the wedding so she wants to invite them to the e-party instead. I think it is bad ettiquette to invite someone to an e-party if you don't plan on inviting them to the wedding too. FH and I don't even know these people.
Thoughts?

Re: E-party invite dilemma
Could you ask your FMIL to break it to them that you are having a small wedding with just family and a few close friends?

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I'm new at this but I think if they are invited to the E-Party then they should be invited to the wedding. I'm trying to put together my e-party list right now too and its HUGE! I wanted a small wedding but I dont think its going to happen!
How many people is your FMIL adding on?

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I just sent out my engagement party invites and everyone who is invited to the e-party is 100% without a doubt coming to the wedding. FSIL told me that anyone who attends the e-party knows and expects to be invited to the wedding. We kept ours to family and only the closest of friends. I didn't invite a lot of people from work because of this reason. They all will be expecting an invitation to the wedding.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
That sounds like something my mother would do . . . I would talk to FMIL and tell her it makes you feel uncomfortable having people you do not know at your engagement party. Or ask FH to talk to her. It seems to me (from experience these past few months) that wedding planning can bring out the worst in people.
I also just sent out my e-party invites and yes. . . all the people invited are 100% going to be at my wedding!

Totally agree. How do u invite to an Eparty & not the wedding? I would feel funny doing that. I would stick to the people that are invited.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I know there proper etiquette rules but I would invite FSIL friends. Your FSIL should mention that you are having a small immediate family wedding but would love them to be apart of your engagment party.

She is adding on at least 6-8 people that FH has even told me about, and I don't think he knows about everyone yet. But our wedding is only going to be 75 people, so that is like adding at least 10% to the guest list! And our room maxes out at about 75 anyway, so we actually have to stick to that number.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying, I dont think people who aren't invited to the wedding should go to the eparty.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
With our wedding the guest list is big. So when I was doing the invite list we had to cut it down by alot. The only people we are inviteing to the e-party is Immediate family and the people in the wedding party. Some of our friends got offended about that but then the list gets out of control.
If you invite people to the Eparty there going to assume im sure they are invited to the wedding.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
It is proper etiquette that they same people that are attending your epics should be invited to your wedding.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
If I was invited to e party I would think I would be invited to the wedding too... you don't think she's trying to back door them into being invited to the wedding, do you?

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I don't think you should invite anyone to the EP who will not be invited to the wedding. Maybe your FMIL will understand that you just can't have them at the wedding, so therefore you should'nt expect them to attend the EP and bring a gift.

You really aren't supposed to invite someone to the E-Party if they aren't invited to the wedding.

Re: E-party invite dilemma
I am only having family, close friends & bridal party at my e-party... I think its kinda rude to have people a the eparty and not at the wedding
