My e-party is later this month at the Villa Russo- so its a catered affair with DJ, photographer, etc., not a back yard party. I'm getting a bunch of emails though from my cousins asking where I'm registered. I nicely reply that we're probably going to register for the Shower next year. Then they ask back 'but then what will people bring you for gifts to the e-party?'
Here's where I need some wordsmithing help from you ladies. How do I, in a non rude way, suggest that we'd like gifts of cash for the eparty? I feel so awful asking for money, and I can't believe people wouldn't just know -including one of my cousins whose children are in my bridal party!
Help! How do I phrase my answer without offending?
TIA!

Re: E-party - need your advice
I had to deal with this too. My mom actually said to my cousins that we were saving for a house so money would be a great help to us in saving. I'd probably just tell them that you & FH are saving and you'd appreciate money because it would really help out. I dont know if there's a really tactful way of saying it.

Re: E-party - need your advice
even though we kind of expect a gift for the engagement party it really is a party to announce your engagement and no gifts are required. That being said I think I would tell them to use their own discreation. IMO you really can't ask for any kind of gift being cash or otherwise. I am sure most people will realize that and either give cash or a gift card to someplace. Good luck

I was in this situation too. I didn't feel comfortable telling people we would prefer money for the e-party especially b/c I know it will be hard for some people. In the end I decided to register for a few things (kitchen electrics, bakeware, utensils, barware). I am going to wait to register for my casual and formal place settings, bedding, towels etc. I just did the registries online for now...it was much easier than going to the stores (too overwhelming) I will complete the registry for the shower.

Thanks- glad to hear I'm not the only one in this situation. I can't say to my cousins 'use your discretion' really. And i know if i say gifts aren't expected then people won't bring gifts. at least these certain people who are asking where i registered. I guess there really isn't a tactful way to say it

You can always say that you already have everything you currently need for your home but whatever they decide to give is greatly appreciated. Thats the most tactful way I can think of to say give money!!

I had the exact same situation...I spread the word through some of my closer cousins. When i was asked where I was registered, I explained I wouldn't register until a few months before. Some cousins asked others what they were giving and the word spread that we needed money the most b/c we are saving for a house. HTH
Good luck.

thats exactly what i said...i said i have everything i need for my apartment and nowhere to store new stuff for when we have a house...so im waiting to register till close to the wedding...
Hey e-party hall twin! I had the same problem ! People were asking me where i registered and I simply told them that I thought the registry was supossed to be for the bridal shower and when they asked what to get us I told them what ever you feel comfortable getting us..... And what do you know EVERYONE gave us money... well except for one person who gave us a gift card to Williams Sonoma. So I am sure that if you tell them 'whatever you feel comfortable with getting us' or 'use your discretion' you wont be dissapointed! I was actually shocked to see that no one gave anything other than cash, being that I had so many people asking me if I was registered and what to get us. Hope everything goes great ... Make sure you go to the Villa relaxed because it goes fast!

Re: E-party - need your advice
you are right, there is no tacful way to put it - but can you have another family member make that suggestion for you? have your mom or FMIL 'spread the word' that if people do want to give a gift, you aren't registering until next year, so checks will be fine.

it's true, for my e-party, almost everyone gave cash except for one dvd plaver and one set of vases. i mean if you think about it, what would you give to someone who hasn't registered anywhere? cash or a gift card is really the best way to go and i think you should expect it. if, however, people are asking you, you may want to say that you're really in the process of saving right now and hopefully they get the hint. or you could just mention stores that you like ans maybe they'll get you a giftcard or something.
