Since I am having a cocktail party do I need table settings and centerpieces?

no settings... but I would think some floral arrangements around, but nothing huge.

No table settings is necessary IMO..
At my e-party, the main purpose (other than to celebrate our engagement) was for all families to meet and get to know each other and having informal setting did just that..
As for centerpieces, I put together a cute centerpeices of candles on each table.. nothing too crazy. and alot of people took them all home.. I'd def do something like that.. and being that it's not your wedding day, where you're running around panicking all day, you can actually have time to go there and set it up beforehand.. =)
editted to say: that I also sprinkled pot pourrie on the tables as well.. every table was dif and it smelled real nice..

definaely no table settings, but a centeropiece on each table would be nice.

We had red and white balloon centerpieces that were tied to a ceramic rose balloon weight and scattered a few roses on the table (my theme was beauty and the beast, I LOVE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST lol)

I agree with no table settings necessary..Maybe just a simple centerpiece - very small flower piece or candles.

Hey T... Here are my plans so far. I also have some pics I can send you if you want of ideas I have found while doing research.
Michael's is having a sale right now of 90% off their X-mas stuff. The one in LEvittown has an entire row of clearance items. I got ribbon there I think its about 5/8' for 3 ft for $1 each. This was in the burgundy color. I also got a couple of white ribbon same size and length on the roll for about 60 cents or 75 cents. I got two of these.
My decorations for our e-party will be balloons, candles and roses. For balloon weights I am using cellophane bags stuffed w/ hershey kisses and tied with the ribbon I bought from above. Our colors for the party are burgundy and ecru or ivory. I will add some votive holders with tea lights and rose petals around the centerpiece.
On the placecard table I am going to place these huge brandy sniffers (bought from Michael's) place floating roses in it with floating candles. I am using two and placing petals around the placecard frames (not sure if we are giving the frames away as favors or using them as placecards yet). I will also place some votive holders with tea lights around the sniffers.
For the program table (at this point I am not sure if this will be an additional table but I want it this way so this is the way its gonna be![]()
) I will place a dozen roses in a vase from my house. With votive holders and the tealight thing again.
We have two fireplaces in our room that I may decorate depends on how wide the ledge is. I will use a combo of roses and candles.
For our dais we are placing two sniffers on each corner (similar to placecard table setup) and in the center of our table, I haven't figured it out yet. I have to do research for this b/c I haven't looked into it yet.
Forgot to mention that all the ribbon I got was organza with satin edging on it. Very pretty and more expensive in all these other places I researched. But I know papermart.com has the cheapest.

Of course the one that I am going to mimick as far as the sniffer and floating candle and roses, I can't send you b/c its larger than 50K. I have to re-size it at work. I am out sick today so if I have time tomorrow I will e-mail it to you.
