E-Party Questions

E-Party Questions

Hey everyone :) Just got engaged a little over three weeks ago and what a whirlwind! YAY!!! LOL

We are getting hitched Sept. 2010 so I have plenty of time to plan. However, I am thinking that we should have an engagement party sooner rather than later. At first we thought possibly after labor day when everyone's summer activities slow down which would be a year before the wedding. BUT...I feel like that is way to long to wait. So...now we are considering replacing our annual memorial day BBQ with the engagement party at our home. Close friends and family.

As far as timing, does this make sense?

Should we register?

Should the invitations say where we are registered? When should those invites go out?

Since it is close friends and family (not expecting anyone to travel) we aren't thinking of having many people.

Thanks guys :)

Also, if any one has any cute ideas for the actual party itself that would be fun :)

CONGRATS!!!!! E-parties are a lot of fun and your right it is a whirlwind. Have you looked at Reception Halls yet they book up quick so I wouldn't wait to long to begin that search especially bc Sept is a busy time...

As far the the e-party....

Register or not totally your choice... I chose not to but many people do....

If you are registered then i would say invites should tell the guest where either on them or most places give you a card to include with the invites.

Invites go out as soon as you want. I would say no later than 4-6 weeks before the party though....

There was a thread about party ideas on here yesterday do a search and it should come up....

I Hope this helps.... I am no expert on these things this is just my opinion from someone who just had theirs last week.... CONGRATS AGAIN!

Yup...we are looking now. I realized that this was a popular time so we want to get the date/venue out of the way then enjoy the engagement for a while :)

Thanks for the advice :)

Re: E-Party Questions

ok so personally from what i am doing/have done...i think memorial day is better, i think labor day is along time...we got engaged dec 16, and the party is this sunday.

we only invited parents lol, siblings, aunts/uncles, adult cousins on each side (not parents cousins, just our first cousins) and bridal party. The only kids coming are RB n FG.

we have NOT registered yet, because i don't want people to feel obligated to get a gift, also........(moreso) because the gifts we do get we are hoping to be monetary...we are opening a joint account right after the party, so id like as much money as possible LOL (hope that doesnt sound bad)

and some ideas/things we're doing...i made a slide show thats going to play on loop throughout the party

we have an engagement pic 8x10 in a 16x20 matte that we're using as a signing board, and i used an idea that Jackie (CloudNine) gave me called 'How well do you know the future Mr. & Mrs.?' which just has multiple choice questions about FH and I (some individually some together) that will be on each table...so its not a game, its more for guests to read for fun

Welcome and Congrats!!!!

I think memorial day sounds like a great idea!!!

You don't have to register before if you don't want to. If you do register, i don't recommend putting it on the invite-just my opinion. Most people will give cash as a gift. If they want to know where you are registered they will ask

Re: E-Party Questions

I bought invitations at Party City that you print fromteh computer on. They weren't very expensive but came out very cute. I was thrilled with them...

Pics a little difficult to see but you get the idea

Re: E-Party Questions

i wouldnt put the actual registry info on the invite--i dont really think youre supposed to, but the way we got around it was by putting our website at the bottom of the invite, and our registry info is on the website..

pics of my invites are in an album

I would register but just not put it on the invitation. People will buy you a gifts this way you are giving them an idea of what you want and most people will ask you or your parents etc if you are registered. It will save you alot in the end of returning things you don't want and being stuck with things you can't return.

Just so you know, whether or not you are registered, you are very likely to get gifts, not money, for an E party. I think people just assume a gift is a better idea because they would like to give you something that you and your FH can use in your new home together. My sister was not registered and she got a TON of gifts. Luckily she liked everything, but you often get multiple items or items you don't like.

I actually do recommend registering. And I don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with including the little card that says you are registered along with the invites.
