We got engaged in December and an e-party was discussed by both families but FH's parents said they would like to throw one for us. I agreed and told my family so they didn't plan anything. Originally we were going to have the e-party right after we got engaged, (which i would have preferred) then they wanted it in warmer weather so they said June....now its pushed to SEPTEMBER! For the past few months my family has been asking me why I havent had my party yet and why its taking so long....i personally agree. I am going nuts with wedding plans and now my FMIL is bothering me about the e-party and we are trying to get everything done for that now. Don't get me wrong i am gratefull for the fact they are throwing a party, but FH and I just want it to be over with so we can focus on the wedding at this point.
One thing that is bothering me the most is the fact that FH and I have not registered yet and all my family keeps asking 'why don't you register, you don't want double gifts'.......of course in the back of my mind im like 'i dont want gifts from my registry thats for the bridal shower'.....but how do you express that to them???? Maybe its just me being totally stressed from everything.
Did everyone register for their e-party? If we had the party originally as planned earlier in the year I would never have rushed into registering anyways........what do i say to these people?

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
breathe.
I FEEL your pain. Believe me, I feel your pain...
Just tell them you have no earthly idea what you want for your future home... So you don't want to register for something you'll end up hating.

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
Oh i have tried to be as nice as possible and they keep asking what i want....i usually dont ask people what they want. I feel weird doing that. FH's grandma is getting us a vacuum apparently. So i looked at him and smiled and he then said 'great a vacuum for what rug?' ....at least FH can make me laugh..haha

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
Our men always come through when you really need them, right?
Worst case scenario, and I'll probably just get lynched for this, register at Bed, Bath and Beyond - you can return it for cash...
Do you really have no idea what you want? Dinnerware, china, pots and pans, bakeware, kitchen utensils and gadgets? Those kinds of things don't go out of style per se....

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
ok....cash is key.....i can't say that i just want cash.....i think thats rude....but the truth is everyone knows we are doing this wedding all on our own and are broke from now till forever so why not just give us cash instead of gifts? Im not about to waste the cash on something else....its going towards the wedding.
and....i know exactly the stuff i want to register for. But thats for the advice about BB&B. I didn't realize you could do that. No receipt needed?

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
My FH whole family kept asking us to register too, I just kep telling them that I had no place to store anything yet. Some people still insisted that i needed house things but most of the others gave cash.
Apparently my uncle had told my side of the family that I was registered with Bank of America so they did bother me and i got lots of checks.

Nope, but I think it has to come off your registry. So they can see it was from your registry, know what I mean?

Love it! I should tell them the same thing. Yeah we don't live together right now due to our jobs so I have no room at all to store anything.

Yeah we dont live together either and my dads crazy with the 'room in the attic' issue so it was the truth. lol. Unless of course I wanted to live among the gifts and pile them in my room.
But i wish i would have known about the whole 'registered at bank of america' joke before the day of my party cause i would have had FH tell his aunts that.

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
Sorry your family is making your crazy.....before you know it though your E-party will be here and they you can relax a little.
We didn't register for our E-party. We just told them we didn't need anything at the moment and they were okay with it!!!

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
the same is happening for us...people keep asking if we are registered yet (for our eparty) and we bacically tell them that we are not registering till after the eparty bc we want that stuff for the shower and we dont need all that much stuff...i think the families has basically figured out that we want cash cause we are paying for the wedding and thats what we need the most

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
Tell them you don't want to register yet because you don't want to do it. Our friends and family asked if we were registering for the e-party and we said no, we're doing it after we hit our one year mark and left it at that.
ETS: Plus we don't live together and neither of us have the space to put these gifts anywhere!

For our e-party we just registered for our Fine CHina and vases and candle sticks and things liek that. we didn't register for our every day things untill this past weekend. and for our e-party we got 11 of our china and alot of crystal bowls and vases and candle stick holders. so i would register for that for now and after the e-party do the other stuff.

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
i registered before my eparty, but not FOR the eparty. I would just say something like 'we don't have a house yet, so i haven't gotten that far. we don't know what stuff we want and need yet. I'll register before my shower though.'

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
We didnt register for our eparty either.. but at the time we had ours we were almost 2 years away. so we just said that our wedding isnt for over a year and 1/2 and we are unsure of what we will want or need. If you would like to give us a gift, please do so.

Re: E-party....family making me nuts
WE were registered and just didnt tell anyone. if they asked then we told them yes. If anything you can just puyt a few things on for now and if you get them and decide you dont want them then return them! then everyone is happy lol. As far as the time frame i know its annoying but i guess its better to have it when its warmer. We had our E-party in june of this year and we got engaged 2004 lol! so i dont think time really matters
