E-Z Pass Question

E-Z Pass Question

DH borrowed my car and his sister's E-Z pass while on a recent business trip to PA. i received a letter in the mail last week from the state of NJ w/ a pic of my license plate # stating that i (DH) failed to pay the $1.70 toll on the george washington bridge. the total amount due is $26.70 (1.70 toll fee + 25.00 administrative fee.

there is an 'e-z pass customer certification' dispute section on the back. the account holder name, e-z pass account # and transporter # must be filled out. problem is the e-z pass is not ours (it's DH's sisters). i have heard (after the fact) that e-z passes cannot be used by anyone other then the account holder.

is this true? DH must have went through 10+ tolls those few days and this is (knock on wood) is the only letter that i have received.

Re: E-Z Pass Question

This happened once with my car (EZ Pass is DH's and it was before we were married).

It was on a trip to Myrtle Beach and the EZ Pass registered all the tolls one way, but missed one the other way - we disputed and it was fine.

I've used my Dad's EZ Pass lots of times, and I've never received a letter. (Neither has he.) I wonder if the booth just didn't 'read' the Pass correctly that one time?

Re: E-Z Pass Question

question is, do you think i can submit someone else's info? i heard that if you do, the holder will lose their ez-pass becuae it is not to be used by anyone by the account holder..

IMO - why should there care who is paying or whose pass it is as long as it is paid?

Re: E-Z Pass Question

Your SIL should submit and put in the explanation it was a family trip , blah, blah, hence not her car. The letter is because it didn't register the toll, not because someone else used the EZ Pass.

Re: E-Z Pass Question

I use my ezpass in DH's car all the time and we never got a letter like that...it probably didn't register.

ditto!! sometimes it just doesn't register, but if you submit someone else's info..you are opening a new can of worms.
