Early Dress Shopping Questions

Early Dress Shopping Questions

Hi Ladies!

So, I hadn't really gotten excited about dress shopping yet, because my wedding is in March 2013 and I was waiting, but I happened to see a dress in a Fashion show that was part of a Fall 2011 collection that I sort of fell in love-at-first-sight with and now I feel like I MUST see it before it's no longer available.

I found a place in Manhattan that i can probably sneak out to during my lunch break and they don't take appointments, so I'm hoping it'll be less of a commitment, but my questions are:

1) How long do places tend to carry designers' lines into the season? Like, when can I expect a Fall 2011 dress to be difficult to get my hands on?

2) Has anyone heard of a website called Milanobridal.com? I stumbled on it and I'm wondering why their dress prices are so low. I'm sure there's a catch, but a search on here came up with nothing.

Thank you!

Re: Early Dress Shopping Questions

I don't know about wedding dresses but I had planned my wedding to have a specific bridesmaid dress as soon as I got engaged this past fall.. All through spring and this past summer the dress was still on the website.

I went to the store that was supposed to carry them on LI the tail end of this summer to look at it and ready to prep and bring my girls to see and the color I originally wanted and saw online was discontinued!!! It was even the dress and color used on the website for the main model. (they had JUST changed the model dress color on the website to one I don't want only a few days before I went) I was soooo sad. I am still sad as I had imagined the bridesmaids being the decoration and now I'm at a loss. It was about the only thing I had had certain I wanted.

I just looked up when the bridesmaids dresses came out.. it was Fall 2009 I believe, They were still out only a few months ago, this past Spring/summer 2011, and now the color is discontinued but the dress is still there in other colors.. bummer.

If you have a dress in mind definitely go and ask, don't assume it'll be there forever in my opinion.

it may not be discontinued when your ready to order. i think it depends more on how well that particular dress sells that determines how fast it gets discontinued. my gown is 3 years old and hasnt been discontinued yet. if you are 100% certain thats the dress for you i say try it on and place your order early. if it does get discontinued im sure the bridal salon will call you if its before your order was placed.

I'm going early too. There was a Maggie dress I fell in love with and found a store on LI that carries a sample to try on plus they are having a Maggie trunk show so I figured to jump on that before I miss out on the dress. My appt. is Oct.14th so I could ask the consultants how far in advance is too far in advance

Great questions! I'm curious to see more responses.

I checked out that site. They are really cheap. I wonder what the catch is also. Are they the 'REAL' dresses by the designers? Maybe they are replica's. I read somewhere on the boards of a site like that (don't remember the name) where they offered replica gowns for cheap but quality was cheap... hence the cheap price tags.

If you find a bridal store you feel comfortable working with, you can always put a deposit on the dress (typically $100-200) and they will watch the dress for you. When/If they get a call that the dress is being discountiued teh store will call you and you can order it then. OR decide to not order it and use the deposit toward the dress you want. See if they will do that for you.

Florencia, the matching veil looks just like the one my mom wore and I think the whole dress and veil look so beautiful Hopefully when I try it on I still feel the same about it
