East Setauket

Hi all...just wanted to know if anyone lives out this way. BF & I were doing some apt. hunting this weekend & are tossed up at this point.

East Setauket is so far, but any comments on the area, good or bad? Shopping? Restaurant? Beaches?

TIA all!!!!!!!!!!

Honey and I went house hunting there yesterday...!!!! We love the area...very pretty. The SD is 3 Village, which is supposed to be very good. We hope to buy our first home there.

We live in Centereach on the border of East Setauket, if you go to the end of our block you see an East Setauket sign.
I was worried about living 'so far out' too but after 6 months I have to say the area is great! YOu have TONS of shopping! We live in between Middle Country Road and 347 so you have within 5 minutes, the mall, price club, bjs, kohls, staples, old navy, block buster, Target, Walmart, Sports Authority, Party City, Home Depot, TJ maxx, Marshalls, Linens and Things, etc, etc! There are tons of pizza places, chinese, and other fast food, as well as every supermarket!
For us, 2 working adults, its great because I dont have the time to go 20 minutes to go to a supermarket as it is in other areas!

This is our first house but we are hoping to move to East Setauket for our future home!

Good Luck

My parents just moved there - and i don't think it's too far out at all. It's close to Port Jeff, not too far away from Smithaven - it's really beautiful - and as was said above 3 village school distract is really good.

best of luck with your search :)

Thanks...no offense meant to the Suffolk girls about being far out, but when you grow up in Bayside......

Can anyone tell me about the Stony Brook LIRR? They told me you can park there, but do you have to pay?

How is the beach? They told us residents can use the beach down the road (off Gnarled Hollow Rd)?

Good luck with the apartment search. Are you trying to decide between N. Babylon and E. Setauket?

You also have Sound Beach which is not far either. I used to go there all the time when I lived there. There is alot in that area. very nice. I understand when you come from bayside it would feel like that. But I remember when DH and I drove to Orient, boy that is far from here! I can't believe how far it is from patchogue.

I work right near E Setauket (in Stony Brook), and live about 10 minutes from there. Definitely great shopping, but I wouldn't look forward to a commute to the city from here! I would love to buy our next house there (we are in a condo now)--the 3 Village School district is one of the best.

Re: East Setauket

My mom grew up in East Setauket (right across Old Town Road from Ward Melville High School and we've always been very close with my grandparents...so I kinda feel like I grew up there too. Spent a lot of time there as a kid.

Shopping is huge now with the new Target, Home Depot, Best Buy shopping Center and there's a huge Stop and Shop there too. The mall isn't too far away.

I've commuted from Stony Brook station before and it's a bit of a pain. You can park there without paying, but there's not a whole lot of parking. The train ride is about 2 hours & you used to have to change trains at Huntington or Hicksville (not sure if you still do). Plus, there aren't very many trains going back that way after rush hour. I think they run every 2 hours or so.

FM me if you need any other info RE: School districts (I worked as a couselor one summer and my mom works in the registration office, both in 3 village schools), churches, things to do, etc.

DH and I just moved into our house in East Setauket last month....off of Pond Path. I take the LIRR from Stony Brook to Penn. Parking is free, and the train isn't too bad. Just be prepared for a long commute. If you have any other questions, FM me. Good Luck!!

Re: East Setauket

My DH and I just bought our new (first) house together in Setauket. we live just north of 25A. I take the LIRR every day from Stony Brook. It takes me 2 hours in the morning and 2hours and 20 minutes to get home(I leave time to get the subway on the way home). I work on Wall Street.

I absolutely love Setauket, and East setauket. I do free-lance work on th etrain so that my time isn't wasted. I have been commuting from huntington before this for 9 years, so I am kind used to it.

Hope this helps!

PS. I have very little time to go shopping, but there are some great grocery stores and Restaurants.

Re: East Setauket

I grew up in Port Jeff, and Setauket is GREAT..you can drive to Ronkonkoma LIRR which has more trains times available and frequently, and you have the option of paying to park or not ( parking garage vs. parking field.) The North Shore beaches 'tend' to be a bit rocky (literally)--it's the LI Sound, but the South Shore which is ocean, has nice beach sand.

good luck

Re: East Setauket

How much is a LIRR ticket to Mahattan from Ronko or Stony Brook ?

Also, what about if you need to catch a subway again once you get into Penn Station?

TIA!
