I spoke with East Wind a few times today and I think that in order to keep costs down there I would need to go with the Veranda room. Does anyone have any info/opinions on that room? I saw some mixed things on the boards. Also, was there that much of a price difference between using the veranfa rm vs. the estate or one of the ballrooms?
I would be having 150-175 people. The person I spoke with said the room could hold up to 175 but people on the boards have said otherwise. Also any info about a ceremony, the cocktail hour, pictures before the wedding, or guest accommodations on premise would be great!! I'm not living in NY right now and finding it very hard to narrow places down without being able to see them just yet!
TIA!!!

Re: East Wind veranda Room
I booked the Estate in March. I looked at dates in November, December and March and during that time of year there didn't appear to be too much of a difference although I only priced the SOuthampton room and the Estate. I know that in the summer they require more of a guarantee than during the off season. If you are able to, try different times of the year.

Re: East Wind veranda Room
I looked at East Wind during my search for the RH and considered them. Here are a few of the pros and cons that I noticed:
We were a smaller party of 125-150 and they showed me the Veranda room. It's pretty, but just a room...although the bar in the room is gorgeous. I think 175 would be a little tight in there. The 'Veranda' is a narrow balcony that stretches down the front of the entire hotel which over looks Route 25. It's too small to do cocktail hour out there and not that many people can fit out there at once. Basically, I think it's a convenient spot for smokers to go. The other negative for me was the cocktail hour space for the room. It's outside of the room, in a random small space that overlooks the lobby of the hotel. I made a comment that I didn't like that at all and they were willing to move CH to another part of the hotel, depending on what else was going on there that day. The hotel rooms themselves seemed really expensive. They do 'comp' the Bride & Groom's room but the guests that are staying there are really paying for it.
As far as pros go, they are more than happy to accommodate you. They were willing to throw a lot of things in when I asked, such as chair covers, champagne greeting, an extra cocktail hour station, dessert stations. There is a spa on site which I think is a huge plus, though a little pricey. The food is amazing. We went to a showcase and everything was soooo good! And the staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a beautiful outdoor ceremony area and in case of inclement weather, a lovely indoor chapel.
In the end, the Veranda room wasn't for us. They showed us the Northampton Ballroom (which really wasn't that much more expensive) but it was too big for us lol. I would look into that. I think it would work for 175 people. It's the north end of the hotel and it's secluded from the rest of the hotel. The guests would enter through the back entrance into a library which is beautiful. Huge bridal suite with a private terrace.
HTH...good luck with your search

Re: East Wind veranda Room
I would agree that the Veranda would be crowded for 175 people. I said that I thought we would be around 175 and they didn't even show me the room because it would be crowded. We booked the Estate, it was a little more than the Northhampton or Southhampton, but I think it's worth it for the privacy. I'm not sure how their prices compare to the Veranda though because we didn't get quotes from there.
