Well...i had to go today because of something stupid. I don't mind going.. I just feel they don't explain what they are doing, or better yet, they don't say when it's going to hurt (they know when it should hurt!!!)

I agree that if you hate going to the dentist - you NEED A NEW DENTIST!!!
If everyone went more frequently they would only need to go for maintenance and not extractions and root canals

I HATE the dentist, but I have had a lot of problems with my teeth.
--4 oral surgeries --2 root canals (one to fix the first root canal when I was 13, when the guy LEFT AN INSTRUMENT IN MY TOOTH FOR MONTHS!!! --went to fix the root canal with a new office, discovered the metal in my tooth, and the new endodontist exclaims, 'OH MY GOD who did this to you'.. when I tell her his name, she says 'no way, that's my professor!' GREAT!! --After the root canal, had a problem putting the crown in, and my regular dentist DIED (not while I was there thank God) so my parents never took me to fix it. --Braces until I was 28 --Still more surgery is ahead of me--lots of chiseling and removal of bone, then implants, FUN!
So no, I HATE the dentist.
ETA: My new dentist is really hot, so I don't mind going there but i feel embarrassed because of all of the work I need (he must think my teeth are awful!) and I get nervous around him!!!

i hate the dentist....well, my dentist is a very nice man, to be honest...but i hate going. i have had huge teeth issues.....3 oral surgeries and 19 pulled teeth, braces, cavities, gum issues......it's just annoying......

Me too! But I'm 25. I actually don't mind the dentist for that reason, and also because they compliment me on my lovely pulp cavities whenever I get an x-ray. Now when I was younger, I had a horrible dentist that actually hit me (I accidentally bit down as he gave me a novocaine shot). Its a wonder I'm not afraid of dentists. I know I will always hold a grudge against my parents for not standing up for me. I mean, I was bleeding and crying so much that day that the dentist made me leave through the back door so I wouldn't scare the other kids!

I don't necessarily agree with this - I go every 6 months.....I just have bad teeth...and have had bad teeth since birth. They require maintenance.....and that makes me not want to go - because no matter how much I go - I still need to go back.....so there is no end in sight for me....
I like my dentist - he's a great person....but I hate going there

Actually, yeah I agree. Both FH and FMIL are really diligent about brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist. But genetics just don't favor them. Its kind of like heard disease. You may eat healthy and work out a lot, but if you have family history, you still may have a heart attack or high cholesterol.

I used to hate it until I found a great dentist. She's great and I go for cleanings every 3 months.
