Easy Poll: Do you think a women will be president in our life time?

With the thread on 24 (my fav show) i think jimmysbride said men shouldn't be runnign the country. so it brings us to today's easy poll. Maybe unfair cause your all women, but would like to see a women president and what does it mean to you to have a women rather then a man.

There was some talk that Hilary Clinton would run for the next presidency.....

No i don't

and i think Hilary running is a HUGE mistake for the democratic party!!!

As much as I would want a women running this country, I really don't see that happening nor do I see a minority either. Sad but true.

hell yeah!!! i'm trying to be optimistic but obviously 200 years of men is working too well...let's try 4 years with a woman and see where it goes!

Yes that was me! I wouldn't say this is an easy poll though... I think it's tough to say. I personally think that yes, this country will have a woman president within our lifetime -- there's alot of presidents to go still. But probably not a woman in the very near future (like within the next 3 presidents but maybe after that) . I think the country is gearing itself up for it... maybe looking for something different in washington. And while Hilary may not be it, I think it's an indication that we are slowly getting ourselves ready to vote in a woman.

I think it's tough..defintiely by the time our children grow up, I hope. I think there are a lot of people in this country, women included who would never vote for a woman under any circumstances. Also, I'm sometimes surprised at how slowly our culture does progress if you look at it. it takes decades to make even the smallest change. For example, this is just me personally, but when i was younger, I though that by the time I was getting married, hardly any women would be taking their husband's name anymore. But a vast majority of people still do

as much as i would like to think this is true...i just do not see ANY strong female leaders in the democratic party

AND i think that not being in office for over 8 years...the democrats will not put up a female!

I honestly see a woman happening before a minority man. High profile politicians like Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer, and other high-profile figures like Janet Reno, Condoleezza Rice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg all prove to the public that women are strong figures, capable and competent.

ETA: I am not sure about it happening in my lifetime. We have made such great strides, and as a state NY is more progressive, but so much of the country is more conservative....I just don't see middle America being as likely to take a chance on a woman.

unfortunately, no I don't see it happening in my lifetime. It is weird though how European countries are so much more progressive with women in office then we are.

I hope that they don't have hilary as the 2008 democratic nominee. I like her, but SO many people ahte her. She's too controversial a figure and too liberal for a country on such a conservative swing. i think if the democrats want to win it, they need to pick a more moderate, less outspoken candidate who will play it safe. Look what happenned to Howard Dean for being t alittle too expressive on TV. I think they just need a democrat who looks like a republican, a white christian soutehrn male. I think that's the only way they're going to win it, and if you get a really untiing figure like Bill Clinton, then you'll win some moderate friends for the democratic party and can take more risks in 2012 and 2016

See, to me the women name change has nothing to do with women's lib (in many cases at least). I still use my work name professionally, and will continue to do so, but I will change my name because when I have children I want everyone to know we are related.

If I live to be 100, I think it's a possibility. I agree, it will never be a Republican!

Well I see now that if that ever changes it will take a long time because status quo is a powerful thing, and there's really no other option that's as socially acceptable, and it causes a whole slew of problems, what will the children's last names be, ow can I have a diff last name than my children/.husband. It comes from a very misogynistic mindset, but now it's just SO embedded in our culture, that it's very difficult to do anything different,a nd it's been so long since what it came form that most people don't see it as a misogynistic thing, they just see it as the way it is, or a positive thing. To me if it does happen that women no longer change thier names, I think it will be indicative of a larger shift in the culture toward a breaking down of traditional gender roles, and the sort of culture where we would be more likely to see a woman as president. I'm not saying if you change your name you hate yourself or you're not independent. I'm just saying it's an indicator that our culture still revolves around traditional gender roles, whichit really does, even after all of these years

I don't think it will happen in my lifetime, and I think we will see a minority male as president before a woman. JMO.

I agree with this. I also think that the first woman elected president will probably be republican.

I think it goes much deeper than traditional gender roles. If you suggest each married couple come up with a new name, perhaps a combination of the two last names, than that really does away with a great deal of family heritage and unity. Likewise, I think there are issues when a woman does not change her name and has children--I know women who then had to go to greater lengths to prove they were indeed a parent before taking children home from school, etc. I think women will always be more likely to take care of the children, etc., because I do feel we are more genetically inclined to care for our young. I'm sure there are some great dads out there, but women's genes are such that we care for young in a different way. It's partly from harboring the babies in the womb for 9 mos.
