Easy Poll: What do you think about fire drills?

we had a fire drill and its like a big break. Lets say somthing did happen...there would be great panic and nobody will get out the building. I work on the 5th floor (of 6) so im one of the last to get out.

One day..there will be somthing important and nobody will take it serious

we have about 1-2 a year - more then that and i think people would really not take it seriously. we had one yesterday and it was nice to be outside for 5 minutes.

not saying its not nice...but point of a drill is to practice for when something really happens

If people actually took them seriously they're helpful...the alarms in our building go off constatnly (people burning microwave popcorn)...its annoying and so frequent that half the building never bothers to leave anymore...I leave always bc #1 you never know when its not burnt popcorn and # 2 its a break from my desk...

i agree, but more see it as a break then an actual drill.

Where I work, no one takes them seriously, which is bad..after 9/11, I try to get my act together when I hear that bell ringing..

mine is a workout, 30 flights of stairs. Once we make it down we can leave for the night though so that is a bonus

we have about 3-4 per year plus one evacuation drill per year. I work on the 21st floor and have to walk down 21 flights and up to Central Park to meet my group once per year.

I think they are extremely important and I think if done right it helps everyone. We just had on elast Monday again.

I think we have about 2 a year. We actually had one yesterday and I and everyone thought it was a drill, but someone downstairs(Basement) put a paper plate in the toaster oven , who does this? It caught fire.

It is a nice break though.

Depending which building I'm working in (we move around), we have anywhere from 3 - 5 per year. I generally think they are a joke but not really anymore since they've been useful several times already.

Since I work for the government, I hate to say it, but bomb threats are not an unusual occurrence here. And when those happen, our evacuations are real. Depending on the building we have AT LEAST one bomb threat per year, if not more. The building I used to work in averaged about 3 bomb threats per year.

Immediately after 9/11 I swear we were outside almost once a week for about a month or so. We got alot of practice during those days and it's become like 2nd nature to alot of us so I guess that's a good thing.

I like them...an excuse to go outside and hang for 20 minutes. I got a laugh out of the fire picture...

We had them a lot at my last job and I have to say that until 9/11 no one asked any questions about the evacuation procedures they explained, but the first drill after 9/11 all of the hands shot up when it was question time.

I agree with you. I am always the nerd askign questions, b/c everytime we have one, they tell us something different.

As it it turns out during the blackout, everyone rushed to the main stairs & not the emergency stairs, which was dumb, b/c that's wher ethe emergency lights are, which we should have known, from the fire drills.

wow- I am on 28 & we don't go downstairs for drills, they tell us to meet by the stairs.

My old company made us meet by the elevators for drills, but the first drill after 9/11 they made us do the stairs and we all went willingly.

we have those ones as well, I think once every 6 months. Where the fire marshall talks. Last month we had one where we had to walk down the stairs and meet up at Stuyvesant park. I think those ones are done twice a year as well. I work in the WFC, so maybe they are more cautious?

I work in a school, so it's something we practice on a regular baisis. It doesn't really bother me.
