Easy Poll: Will you have dogs when....

..... you have kids?

my sister has a dog issue. the dog bread is a fox terrier and its always hyper and active. this isnt good for the baby.

what do you think...

in this particular case of my sister dog, i think it would have to let the dog go. its not fair to the dog if you pay it no attention.

and by active...i mean constanly wants to play, jump, barks, etc...

non active doggy - quiets, always sleeping, etc..

My sister has a JRT , very active and hyper and he's really good with kids. I don't anticipate a problem. We were going to take him when we got married. I honestly don't think it's a big deal unless it's a vicious dog. I wouldn't have a PUPPY and an infant at the same time.

No dogs for us, DH is highly allergic to anything with fur and I hate the thought of having to pick up warm poop in a plastic bag. So I think I'll just visit others with pets.

dog isnt vicious...just wants constant attention (for the most part) i think its do able but the dog would get so little play time and love it use to get before the baby showed up

That's whay my sister's dog is like. But I think he would adjust. In this dog's case, I think he just needs discipline, not be jumping all over everyone. But when the kid grows up the kid and dog will be great together.

We've had our dog for 2.5 years. She was abused and showed up on DH's doorstep. She has a lot of issues and has really made tremendous gains and is wonderful with us but is still very unpredictable around strangers. I don't think we'll be able to keep our dog when we have kids because she is just too unpredictable and we have no idea how she'll react to a baby. We're hoping DH's parents will take her.

I'd love to have an active dog, especially when the kids get older, but we'll plan on getting a breed that is good around children specifically.

I want one now! I need to have a hypo-allergenic dog because I suffer from severe allergies but FH isn't a dog person. He will have to deal. If he can have football, I can have a dog.

We are planning on getting a golden retriever puppy very soon. They say that they are great with both babies and kids.

No, we're not necessarily pet people to begin with, but if we ever decide to get a dog, it will be when our kids our older and we can pick out a family pet together.

I've actually been highly afraid of dogs since I was a little kid. Now I'm only afraid of big ones. My parents had a very hyper terrier when I was a baby. They eventually had to give him away b/c he was causing too many problems, and I'm convinced that he's the reason I have been afraid of dogs my whole life.

I have had a dog my entire life. When I was real little we had an older dog (who was a hyper puppy when my brothers were small), when I was a toddler, we had a puppy lab, then I had a pointer and a dalmation (still have) and now I have a JRT mix. All are very Active breeds.

The only reason I would get rid of my puppy (who is very hyper) would be if she showed any aggression towards kids. Which at this point she hasnt, she loves my niece and nephews (especially my 6 month old niece who she adores and follows around)

I do agree that I wouldnt get a puppy when I had an infant though but that is simply because training takes time and attention and so do infants!
