Eating Issues~ Help

Eating Issues~ Help

I hate to admit this, but just when I have been doing well with my diet and nutrition I ABSOLUTELY blow it by eating lots of crap and then feeling really guilty about it. Really guilty.

Either I will do really well all week and then blow it by eating tons of chips, snacks, etc. on the weekend or I do well during the day and eat the contents of my fridge at night.

I don't have a lot of weight to lose and I am more concerned with this becoming a pattern than I am about my weight.

What shoudl I do? Any advice?

Dont buy any snack food for the house. and maybe designate one day for you to eat some treats (in moderate portions) so that way you dont feel totally deprived. I think that is why a lot of ppl 'cheat' on a diet because they go for so long denying themselves any kind of treat and then they can't take it anymore and totally indulge. Do you think that would help?

This is such a hard thing for so many of us!!! I go through the same thing on a daily basis, and it really stinks. I guess, we have to take it one day at a time, and try to remember that it is ok to indulge, but then the next day get back on track. The guilt of over doing it one day is usually what makes people give up and just not bother at all. that is where I have a big problem. Don't give up and remember, if you indulge a bit today, it is ok, just do better tomorrow.

don't buy crappy food!

keep your fridge/pantry stocked with healthy choices that are easy to grab and go.... like little baggies of carrots or cut up peppers or broccoli with some fat-free dressing, 100 calorie packs, etc. so that when you are in the mood for a snack it can be something healthy!

also... keep some hershey's kisses around, so when you just NEED some chocolate, you can have 1 or 2 to stop the craving

Chuck all the Sh!t out. In a garbage bag and straight to the garbage. There are healthy snacks. Like Totrtilla chips and salsa. Baked Ritz. Yeah ok, it sounds boring, but you can also make low fat dips etc!! Your a tiny little thing, but I have to tell ya....it's what you make of it, and what you want for you!!! Trail mix, maple granola, I keep it at my bed side, so I don't go into the kitchen and see Darrens football munchies You can accomplish what you want, but you have to put the effort into it, to make it happen

it's true you shouldn't buy the stuff....

BUT.....

to me it's a sign that your diet is too stringent, and you're too hungry. While dieting, you don't need to SUFFER. You just have to be reasonable....

Make sure you're eating enough protein to fill up. Also, as for the sugar / salt cravings....

if FH orders cake at a restaurant, don't stare at it, and then go home and eat a bag of chips... Order a coffee so you're having something while he's eating and then grab one or 2 bites of the cake!

i agree w/the ladies, and stock up on your water intake, sometimes we feel hungry when all we really need is hydration - throw it away and replace w/healthier options, i.e. frozen yogurt, strawberries and negative calorie foods like apples and such

I can totally relate to this, and am prone to the same thing. I find that there are 2 things that I do, in conjunction with each other that help to solve the problem:
1- don't keep junk in the house
2- when you feel a binge coming on.......stop and remember how disgusting you will feel afterwards and the next morning. Really remembering how awuful you feel afterwards and making it stick in your mind will make you think twice about eating those chips.

At least you're aware of it! A lot of people aren't even aware of what they're doing.

I myself am an emotional eater...eat when i am stressed, sad, not feeling well, bored, etc...so when i feel myself reaching for those snacks to 'feel better' i try and take a moment and think 'do you really want the potato chips...or are you just feeling crappy'....i try to really stop and think about the food before I put it in my mouth....i used to just mindlessly stuff my face and it was like a high and escape...but i also do allow myself a treat here and there without feeling guilty...hope that helps!!!

i have the same issues-- i allow myself to eat a little worse on Saturday nights-- FH and I usuually eat out then--

but during the week I try to snack on the 100 calorie snacks and nuts....

I also make a pudding pie -- that isn't too bad (AND EASY TO MAKE!!) -- I make it with skim milk & it turns out GREAT!! so I still feel like I am having a real snack

also I eat the a small mini bag of 94% fat free popcorn or a 40 calorie frozen fudge pop... I give myself enough variety that I feel like I am being bad--when I'm not.

Hope this helps

I can relate to this SO much. It seemed like the literally the day I turned 24, my metabolism got switched to slow motion, and I can't get away with eating like I used to.

So one habit I've developed, instead of shunning bad foods, is enjoying them SLOWLY and in smaller portions. That way I'm not depriving myself of cheesey goodness but I don't go overboard or feel guilty afterwards.

And if I do feel like I went overboard, I'll throw on a taebo video or something later so I can work out and feel better.

Thanks so much everyone.
After reading your responses I realize that I'm not the only one frustrated. It helps so much!

So I'm going to ditch the junk in the house and stock up on some more flavored waters and my favorite veggies~especially celery and grapes. (And CANNOT forget the SugarFree Fudgesicles)

I had another idea too...whenever I feel like pigging out when I'm annoyed, bored, etc. I'll take the dog for a brisk walk around the block.
(Wow! He's gunna be tired!!

I dont have too much weight to loose either but I find myself eating c r a p alot which makes it harder to loose what I need to. What i would recommend is to find some time to go to the gym several times each week and drink tons of water. To be honest, when I work out I dont have to 'diet' because I'm working out. I also dont crave sugary and greasy foods when I'm working out.

When I do snack on stuff I keep a bowl of grapes in the fridge or celery sticks with ranch dressing. I alwasy allow myself to have dessert....if I dont then I WILL end up raiding the fridge later and eating everything in sight.

Thank you for the kind words It's not so much losing watching my weight as it is about being healthy. I'm 31 and I would like pop a kid out within the next 2 yrs and I want to start being aware of how I eat and take care of my body. I need to develop good habits instead of just eating junk at all hours of the night, ya know?
It just seems like I keep falling back into 'college life' overindulgent habits.

What you don't buy...you won't eat...I learned that...Hang in there...you will lose the weight. A stressful time is approaching for you and you are going to be too anxious to eat anyway!

Get rid of the junk like the girls all said.
ITs the easiest way...if you dont have you wont be tempted and then in order for you to have it you will have to go get it-that may change your mind. Also-maybe try and get yourself a 'snack' that is both enjoyable and healthy for you
