Eaves and overhangs?

can someone please explain the difference?

The eave is the level connection between the roof and wall. All sloped have them. There are usually gutters on the fascia at this point to direct water flow from the roof. An overhang is the distance from the wall to the outside fascia. It is common to install soffit there.
