Hi! I have received two emails so far, with the EXACT set up from Ebay, I sowre it HAD to be real, they even have the logo and say its a safe site, anyhow, theys ay that my account needs to be reupdated and that it will be suspended if I dont reupdate it. So it scared me, because I am selling a few items on there and I dont want my account suspeneded, anyhow..so they ask for credit card info, checking account stuff, the same stuff paypal asks for, but then they ask for social security. I sent it to [email protected] and they reported backl to me that this wasnt sent by them. If you saw how real this looks, you wouldnt believe it! I just want to warn those of you who may receive it. Ebay will never ask you for such personal info as your social. Please dont fall for it!

Re: Ebay scam
Thank you! I just received the same kind of e-mail yesterday (I didn't respond to it) but did not know how to verify it with Ebay.
It's not the first time I've received this type of e-mail - it looks so real!

Re: Ebay scam
One way I found to tell a fake (besides, that like you said, many big name companies like EBay, banks, credit cards will not ask you for this stuff) is to hold your mouse pointer over the link that they tell you to use to update your account. When you do this a website address should appear. I've found that all these address come up as numbers, eg: http://197.4568. This is not a real site. They set it up so that it looks authentic.

Re: Ebay scam
I saw this same e-mail a while ago too - and luckily I knew about the [email protected] e-mail so I was able to report it as well. Scary the things people will do to trick you into revealing personal information!!
Thanks for sharing this with everyone!!

Re: Ebay scam
This happens a lot with all different kinds of companies. I got one from Citibank that wanted me to update all my personal information. I make it a habit not to give out information such as this unless I have initiated it such as opening a new account. Also, watch out for AOL mails.

Re: Ebay scam
I have a yahoo address and usually put 'full headers' to see where it is coming from if I am unsure. I have had that happen to me as well as someone was trying to get into my ebay account and get my password.

Re: Ebay scam
I have gotten this too. Good for you for being smarter than the scammers. Unfortunately people out there will fall for it.

Re: Ebay scam
I received the same exact thing one time, but luckily I figured it was fake and ignored it. I'd rather wait and see if my account is closed than respond to an e-mail like that!
