ETA: There are 2 different materials I could use...there's mirrored acrylic OR finished wood (the part that goes into the cake is coated with wax as to not splinter the cake). The mirrored acrylic is much more expensive do you think it makes a difference if I used the wood? I mean you don't see any part of the wood because it's covered in crystals. What do you think?

i think it depends on the size of the cake and how many tiers, but i would go with 4
Ditto - also if there's going to be fresh flowers surrounding it...
