Thanks for your help ladies. Why is it that certain halls aren't listed in books for example, I haven't seen Russo's or Marina Del Rey.

Hey Rina...some of these halls don't pay to advertise that's why you'll never see an ad for them. They rely on word of mouth.

That's exactly what Marina Del Rey told me. Let me ask you- where are you taking your pictures? We're going to go look at Russo's this week, hopefully, but I was wondering where your gonna go and have your pictures done. When my cousin got married we went to a studio out in Brooklyn and had them done there, but I'm not too crazy about that idea.

This is something we are still deciding. As I'm sure you know Russo's doesn't exactly have the best photo taking views...so we are considering Old Westbury Gardens. If not then we'll search for something a little closer. I'll let you know Rina. I don't want indoor pics. I definitely know we want to be outdoors.

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

UPDATE:
We went to El Caribe tonight. They have food beyond food. The rooms were nice. Basically we got a price and it was 162 per person and w/ all the taxes/gratuity/valet parking etc it pretty much comes out to $200 a plate. This included the full seafood/vienesse- you name it...everything. Martini fountain/ frozen cocktail...hanging lobsters, etc. Also, this was for Sat. night in Jun 2007.
To be honest w/ you, I didn't like the location and the fact that when guests enter it reminded me of a parking lot at a super market. They also have a gym next to them...which makes it less elegant IMO. (I'm pretty sure they own it) They told me and my FI that they 'may' be remodeling and put an outdoor location for pictures. Hopefully, we get a chance to go to Russo's tomorrow. But it looks as though we may probably end up booking there- we will see. I just wanna book a hall and move on to step 2!

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

You have plenty of time to book a hall unless you're trying to get one of the mansions on LI!!

I used to live 3 blocks from El Caribe and mind you I have heard great things about it, but it is a residential area and people get lost in the area all the time. You don't expect a catering hall to be there, so it's easy to miss.
Plus there's construction going on in the area (at least this was the case 3 weeks ago when I visited family.)
You might want to check into Terrace on the Park or Douglaston Manor. There's also the Grand Prospect Hall. I haven't heard spectacular things about Russos, and there are plenty of places if you're trying to stay in the south Brooklyn/Queens area.

I'm from Brooklyn, and the food is impeccable, the location is GARBAGE, and their prices are actually cheap compared to other places for the same quantity and quality. I honestly don't think you'll do better at Russo's. russo's is located on Cross Bay Blvd in Queens, and you walk outside, and it's a HUGE interesection/smaller highway. If you want something with scenery or property, stick to Long Island, unless you check out the Palm House (Brooklyn Botanical Gardents.)

DO NOT RUSH this! You should really really really think it through, the last thing you want to do is rush through booking a hall and a date, and time.

Good Luck!

My FI's old partner got married there - probably the BEST food I have ever had at a wedding - it was incredible!

I went to a wedding there and was not impressed. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. I don't like the location and the fact they don't have an outside area. You should try something else. For $200 a head, you will find a much better place, much nicer. If you liked El Caribe, check out Marina Del Rey in the Bronx, you will like it.

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

Another suggestion is the Surf Club in New Rochelle. It's Italian style food and they do have grounds for pictures.
If you go to check it out, I would also suggest driving up the block because there are a few beach clubs on the same street (Greentree, VIP, Beckwithe Point)

Here's another suggestion, if you are looking for a Brooklyn catering hall - where we had our Reception http://www.gargiulos.com/ its located in the Coney Island part of Brooklyn and the food is amazing.

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

Thanks for all your help ladies. I honestly thought finding a hall would be simple. I wish I could combine things from different halls and put them into one. I think after I get married I'm gonna open up the perfect hall...combine things from here and there, etc. We only looked at three places so far and I'm already about to give up.
Is it possible to fall in love w./ everything in your hall or are there things you wish were different? I think the reason I'm going to have such a hard time picking something is because I'm looking for perfection. It's got to have everything or else I can't be happy w/ booking something I don't love evrything about. Is this normal? I think I'm gonna start another thread w/ this question!

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

Last time I went to a wedding there I felt sick after eating the dinner meal. The cocktail hour was very good..miles of food. Also the large room which is very nice has a wall of huge class windows which over look the parking lot. One of the guest even caught one of valet guys cruising around in his new cadilac!

I have to agree. I also thought the place was dirty. The location stinks..but there are tons of places you could go. I also agree about the clubs in New Rochelle. The Surf Club is excellent and they have tons of photo op places outside.

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

The place is amazing! My sister had her wedding there...and I considered it when I was booking my hall. In the end it was too pricey for me, but it is really worth it.

The food is amazing and the menu is outrageous. IT'S VERY ITALIAN.....but I am not saying it in a bad way at all.

The only negative thing I can say is that the outside isn't great. The parking lot is directly in front of the entrance so when you turn into the premises all you see are cars and in the distance...the building. Little bit of a turn off...but once your inside, you'll forget all about the outside.

I know the owner Ralph personally---good guy, he won't steer you wrong.

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

I have heard nothing but great things about Russo's and El Caribe. I am obviously getting married at Russos and could care less about it being on Crossbay Blvd. Everyone is going to be inside not wandering around outside, no matter where you get married. If you have family that is from Queens or Brooklyn they are not going to care about a long driveway to drive up to the front of your reception hall. When I booked I was interested mainly in the food and decor. I'm not sure what 'look' your going for but keep that in mind

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

I am from Brooklyn and Gargiulo's, Russo's & El Caribe were out of the question for me...only because everyone that lives in Brooklyn will and or did have their wedding at one of those halls.. and i wanted to be a little different ..so now i am making my guest travel 45min-1 hour to my hall

i have also been to parties at the halls and they are great .

Re: El Caribe Country Club? Has anyone heard of this hall? UPDATE

Another optiion may be the Riviera in Brooklyn. I have not been to a function there, but I have heard it is really good. It is Italian style all done by the family who owns it and although the location is not the best, they do have nice outdoor space for pics and part of the cocktail hour. Reasonable prices also.

I looked at the Riviera when I was looking it was nice. JMO I thought the cockhour room was small and the reception room was small for my size wedding - 250

But I did like that during the cocktail hour they could set it up outside and/or inside and that during the cocktail hour they can post pictures of the &'s baby/childhood and dating pictures
