Elementary School Teachers/Guidance Counselors

I have an interview tomorrow for an elementary guidance position. My experience with guidance is all on the secondary level. It's been awhile since I have worked in an elem school setting. I can't find ANYTHING online specifically about elem counseling. I know there are a lot of teachers out there - any suggestions for what they may ask me? I don't know if any of you are close with the counselors - or if you know if you school's website has info about elem guidance programming...
I know career exploration is a big deal on the elem level. but any advice or insight for things I should know about elem guidance?
THanks!

in my school (and the previous school i worked at), the guidance counselor basically deals with the 'troubled' or 'outsider' kids. a lot of talking with kids and parents about a variety of issues. sometimes she comes into classrooms and works with the kids on social issues like bullying, etc. also, she is a part of the team that classifies kids and gets their IEP in action.

hope that helps and good luck on your interview!

I am an elementary school social worker, i wish we had a guidance counselor, so i could have a buddy in crisis situations.

basically, i run socialization groups, do all the CPS assessments and referrals, presentations in classrooms, run red ribbon week (drug awareness), get called to classrooms with acting out children, all parent problems and so on and so on. My day today was crazy.

Amy - where are you a social worker? You can FM me if you like!

The SW and psychologist in our school do bully prevention, red ribbon week, life skills, and behavior management. Bullying is a big issue in elementary schools today so I wouldn't be surprised if they asked you something about that.
