elopement/shower question

Ok, so after much drama I'm pretty sure we're going to Disney and eloping. We may possibly invite a few guests (we can have up tp 18)

A friend asked me about a shower. I think it;s inappropriate to have a shower and invite people who will not be wedding guests. To me it seems like I'm begging for gifts.She seems to think a shower is a celebration of your relationship and is seperate form the wedding.

What do you girls think?

I agree with you.

Perhaps after the wedding you can send out a wedding announcement or have a small party. That way anyone that wants to send a gift can do so.
