Eloping question

Eloping question

FI and I were talking this morning and we just want to be married already. Our families would never approve of us eloping. Is it possible to get married without telling anyone and then just doing it again next year as planned? I'm thinking no because we are getting married in church next year and will need to get a marriage license. Am i making sense?! :) TIA

Re: Eloping question

Why would you elope when you are spending all of this $$ on your wedding day? Personally, I don't think it's a good idea. I think you are setting yourself up for disaster should anyone find out about this. Plus, I think the church will give you problems...

makes sense in what your saying...

first, somebody will have to know you got married because you need a witness (maybe 2) if you just go to a judge to do it.

if you get married at a hall..., i'm not sure if you need it.
church wouldn't like that idea too much if you decide to do this.

family will be very upset if they found out this way verses coming out and telling them your intentions... i would consider this very carefully as it can hurt people.

what is the big rush for?

Re: Eloping question

why do you want to get married so quickly? You should enjoy your engagement!

The church is going to want to see your marriage license...and then you have to sign everything with witnesses. You may run into a problem, unless you tell them the truth.

It sounds like you guys are just having a little freak out....enjoy the time now....don't make any rash decisions...getting two families together is hard enough, eloping could make it sooo much harder. I know that with all this whirlwind around you, getting it over and done with seems like such a good solution. Try to hang on to the idea that this is the stuff that memories are made of, going dress shopping, fighting over envelopes, laughing at your shower, giving your FH the eyebrows when he tries to register for a playstation, etc.....
Whatever you decide, you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life, don't make a hasty decision.....there is no rush.

You make sense and I'm trying to find a way to do this myself!

It's tough to plan something to this scale with some people around you who either make it difficult or make it about themselves - the couple seems to occassionally get lost in the process.

This time is very stressful for us too, especially with $$$.

But, I feel that this is bringing me and FH even closer! He is soo involved in the planning with me. We have done every single thing together.

It's bringing us closer - but making us really pull away from our families.

You should FM cloddy. She and DH were married 7 years ago and then they renewed their vows in Church last Saturday. Everything at church was exactly the same as if they had not already been married. I think they even needed to get another license....but she can tell you better.

You could always elope and just talk to your officiant and ask if they would mind keeping your secret. think about it, you could have your own little anniveristy that know one else knows about, except you too.
