inner envelopes? Should this be something I skimp on or not? I need immediate help on this! I am paying someone to do it on computer for me.

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I didn't, I don't think people will notice or care. I have received lots of invites without it.

According to etiquette books I've been reading about this same stuff, you should put names on the inside, such as 'Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan' or even 'Daniel and Allison Sullivan', but it isn't required. As long as all necessary names are on the outside envelope, it should be fine.

I am doing it b/c I think they are a great idea -
One of the things I like about them is that you use them to address EXACTLY WHO you want to invite -so if you are not inviting kids then it will be clear on the inside envelope

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
that is a good point - you can personalize the inner envelope a little more and put first names of the specific people invited! clears up confusion! something to think about

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I used names on my inner envelopes. It made it look finished. I did on the inside Mr & Mrs Jack SoandSo

I plan on addressing the inner envelopes too. I think it is a nice touch.

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
We put everyones first names on the inner envelope. We wanted to make it personal and when all was finished it really gave them that extra added special touch, like we took the time to personally invite them. Its a personal choice, i had wanted to just skip it, but mom wouldn't let me. I am glad she jumped in.

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I am putting names on the inner envelopes because we are inviting children...from what I understand, the inner envelope can be first names or the way you know someone (IE: our best man is JAson, but we all call him Jay, so the inner envelope will say Jay but the outer will say Jason). Children are listed in inner envelopes only, ie:
outer: Mr and Mrs Smith inner: John and Mary Bobby Julie

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I did it myself only cuz it seemed to be the thing to do. Besides, if you want to be certain as to who gets invited, that's the best way to handle it.

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I am so glad someone asked this because I was wondering about the inner envelope. Mr. & Mrs. John Doe Or Jane & John. Or is it John & Jane??? Like people care as much as the LIW brides.

Re: Emergency Invite Question- Who put names on...
I didn't have inner envelopes b/c FH ordered invitations without them. I was pretty upset, although no one seems to mind. Here's why you need them according to me:
I had to address the outside envelopes Ms. Jane Doe and Guest
And Guest should not go on the outside envelope. Also, I had some guests who have serious significant others, but do not live with them. I had to address outside envelope to Mr. John Doe and Ms. Jane Deer. This doesn't make sense b/c the guest doens't really live there.
Proper ettiquette according to Craine's says outside envelopes should say:
Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
inside then says
Mr. and Mrs. Doe
If they have children you add their first names only underneath:
Mr. and Mrs. Doe Bobby, John Jr, Susie
The reasoning behind all of this was that historically a butler or servant would receive the mail and discard the outer envelope, which was considered too coarse for the master or mistress of the household to handle. Those invited were presented with the invitation in the inside envelope only.
