Emergency surgery only 25 days before

So I was holding off going to dentist for a cleaning close to my wedding so my teeth would be super clean and white but boy was that a mistake. Thank goodness I didn't go any closer. I went for cleaning today and they saw a cyst growing behind my wisdom tooth so tonight I need emergency surgery to take out two bottom wisdom teeth and the cyst. So not ready for this. Just praying everything goes well and that I won't have infection or swelling for wedding. So ladies don't put off the dentist. I thought it was a good idea but it's not, any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated,

I agree, do exactly as the doctor says - and make sure you eat! Even if it is just lukewarm soup or a meal shake or something. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once and I didn't eat. Well taking pain meds on an empty stomach is not good! I ended up ripping my stitches because I had nothing in my stomach and the meds made me sick - so make sure you have something in your stomach!

I found that Dunkin Donuts Coolattas and Slupees felt really good post surgery as well :)

Good luck!!

Follow the doctor's instructions and you will be fine. If for whatever reason there should be swelling it will definitely be gone before your big day. Easier said than done but not to worry. Good luck and keep us posted. Big hug! SSssqqquuuueeeeezzzzeeeee

Good luck! And yes, definitely eat before taking pain meds. I had the same problem as JSabbatino, pain meds were making me sick, and getting sick caused so much more pain. Any swelling will definitely be gone ny your big doay, try not to stress about that.

I am so sorry! Ice it as much as possible. I had dental work done and was swollen for 3 weeks but that is bc I bruise VERY easily.

Ice! and eat with the meds...I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out 2 weeks before senior prom years ago and I also had a cyst under one of them. That side took the longest to recover. I ate a lot of yogurt and pudding was the easiest and lightest on my stomach. ...good luck! you'll be fine!

Sorry to hear that, but to echo what the ladies said def a lot of ice. When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I had a lot of slurpees and iced drink and it helped tremendously with the pain and swelling for me, along with icing it. Also, when on those pain killers they prescribe you, make sure you have something in your stomach before taking it. It will prevent upset stomach and vomiting. Good luck and speedy recovery!

Thanks ladies .. all went well not really swollen or bruised just in a lot of Pain.. This is my first time taking vicodin and I feel like it makes it worse. Trying to figure out a other regimine.

I am very lucky that I only have one wisdom tooth (a dentist did an x-ray of my whole mouth a few years ago and it's upper left). I know my sister had a couple of her wisdom teeth taken out a while ago and she was in a tiny bit of pain.

I took Vicodin after a car accident and it was not pretty. Maybe Percocet? Or just an OTC pain killer?

But definitely stick to what the dentist tells you!

If the vicodin isn't working try ibuprofen! Sounds ridiculous, but that's what I used when I had mine out late last year. I was prescribed vicodin first, which barely worked, so they gave me toradol, which was easily the worst thing I've ever taken. After a while I gave up and just started taking double doses of Motrin and it worked way better than the prescription pain meds. Just be careful not to take too much of it on an empty stomach either...it shouldn't make you nauseous, but it can cause ulcers!
