I am in a tough spot! I had been waiting on a job offer for three months and I was turned down today!! This economy is killing me.I have a Masters and NO job!!
I am so psyched to start planning my wedding and this is just a real bummer. What is going on here? Anyone experiencing this?! or better yet, know somewhere that is hiring a counselor lol?

Re: Employment Blues
I have my undergrad in Human Services and Masters in School Counseling. I would be more than willing to take something in Mental Health. I have been looking for a position that will hire me based on my Human Services, in hopes that they will pay for me to become a licensed MH. I have a semester and a half left....I live in Babylon.

I work for an agency called Hope for Youth. We're based in Amityville. I have my master's in general psychology (yea, big mistake) and I recently started there a few months ago. I'm not sure if they're hiring, but I'm sure you could check the website and send your resume over.

did u go to hofstra? i'm actually applying to that program now cuz i have my MA in forensic psych but again, can't make THAT much money cuz i'm not licensed.
i would check with YAI. They always seem to be hiring, even now. Also, if ur from the island the best bet is to check with the school district that you went to. Also ask anyone you know who is a teacher.

Re: Employment Blues
Its bad all over. Each day, someone else is getting laid off that I know. Its really scary and overwhelming. You have to hang in there. Did you consider a Head Hunter? They find the jobs for you... and post on Craigslist, Monster etc. If you are looking to work in a school, you need to work you connections and send your resume to every school district. But hang in there. Trust me. It will get better.

Pretty cool......Where did you go to school?
I guess I get your clients as the clinic I work at receives tons of COPS referrals from various hospitals.

Re: Employment Blues
I'm not sure if you'd be willing to transfer your counseling skills into a higher ed position but you should check out higheredjobs.com. Many colleges and universities look for counselors in counseling centers on campus or as academic or career advisors. Good luck.

I knew there was a lot of competition in the field. I just didn't think it would be this bad. I am having a hard time finding something in higher ed even!! I have applied everywhere. Its exhausting. It really is who you know. What college do you work at?
