Engagement and Shower gifts...

If you and FI live together, are you using the new gifts you receive for your engagement and shower before you are married?

FI and I have everything stored at his moms. I go there and see all these boxes and just can't wait to use the stuff.

I just had my shower Sunday. We do not live together yet and we are redoing the apt. I started using some stuff (plates, glasses utensils, cookware etc) b/c we are getting married in 2 months and now that my roommate moved out we started everything new

I figured it's only 2 mos. why wait

My FH and I live together and when I have my shower I am sure that we will use the stuff that we receive from my shower. Thats why we have the shower I guess. I see nothing wrong with that.

For us, it depends on what the gifts are. We've lived together for almost 2 years now, so we already have the basics. We're saving stuff like our new everyday dishes, crystal, and flatware for when we have a house. But we did start using some small appliances that we got... of course we'll use our luggage for our honeymoon too! I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use your gifts, this is just our own way of doing it!

I think if we get things we really *need* we might start using them now, but for the most part we are going to put things away till after the wedding.

The only reason is so that something is 'different' afterwards... we live together now, not much is going to change, so that will add the the excitement I think, coming back from the honeymoon to all our new stuff!
