engagement annoucements?

engagement annoucements?

i was hoping some of you had some advice on this... my MIL really wants to send out engagement announcements but i'm having trouble finding any - i just don't think people really do this anymore. any thoughts, advice, or vendor suggestions?

I think engagement announcements are sort of a thing of the past. Save the Date cards, while not replaceing them entirely, sort of serve the same purpose. You may want to suggest that as an option to your MIL.

Hehe..I did this...
Only because we know a lot of people and everyones always asking 'so when are you getting married'.
So I put an announcement along with a pic in the local newspaper (Queens Forum). I will scan and attach later on.....

I sent these out when we got engaged. I got them from e-bay.

We did not do them because I kind of felt it was like asking for gifts. If you do STD, then you really don't need them.

I did them, I think they are a nice way to let everyone know you are engaged rather than by word of mouth. I don't think sending them out is a way for asking for gifts. People who want to send a gift will whether they got an announcement or not. These were mine. You can go to any printer and you use actually use wedding invites. The only difference is the wording.

Instead of doing 'announcement' I sent out Save the Dates. Kills two birds with one stone so to speak! You announce your engagement and request people reserve the date for your special day. Maybe think about doing something like a save the date!
