Engagement Announcement Question

I was hoping to get some advice about announcements…

How many of you guys did them? And how soon after your engagement did you send them out?

I am getting a lot of slack from family that I was not going to send them out so now I think I should just too keep peace. I got engaged in November is it to late to send them? I don’t want to look dumb.

Does anyone have examples??

Thank for your help!

Re: Engagement Announcement Question

We got engaged on 11/1/04 and sent out announcement a few weeks later.

They came out really great. We made it using my digital camera and Microsoft Publisher and then uploaded the file (96 MB) to the printer (printingforless.com).

We paid $102 for 500 4 x 6 postcards (with a $25 off the first order coupon).

The scan looks a little fuzzy on my screen (?) but the cards came out very clear.

Re: Engagement Announcement Question

Ok, a few things. I sent mine out about a month after we got engaged. I made them myself so I needed to design them and I sent photos in them. not everyon does them. in fact I've never even gotten an announcement. Basically I did it because I have a rather large family and I didn't know if/when I'd be having an eparty and I didn't want to have to make a million phone calls or later suffer the torture of hearing everyone say 'why didn't we know?' etc. I don't think it's too late to send them, but if everyone knows already, there's really no point in sending them and it can add problems anyway. I had a lot of politics. FH's mom wanted me to send them to every tom, **** and harry and I didn't want to do that only close family because it's more $$, and also I didn't know at that piint who i would and would not be able to invite to the wedding and I didn't want to send it to people I was not going to invite to the wedding, so i wanted to keep it at immediate family to be safe. Then his mom got stupid calls from like 3rd cousins twice removed about why they didn't getone and it became this whole thing as if EVERYONE sends out announcements. The reality is most people don't because 1) they have an e=party so the people find out whehn they get those invites or 2) they send out save the dates a year in advance, so people find out anyway. So, if you want to send them, send them. good luck

Thanks!

Since I got FM about how we made them - in case anyone is interested.

We took digital pictures using my camera and then loaded them onto my computer. I also scanned some photos (300 dpi resolution)

Then we used Publisher to create a 4 x 6 card. I went to insert picture (from file) and pulled in all the pics I wanted to use. I had to resize them (not crop) to fit the page. To move them to exactly where I wanted I zoomed in to like 800 and selected each picture and used the arrow keys to move it slightly either way.

After that I added a border - changed it to all black and made it really wide. I then inserted a text box and put it where I wanted the words to be - and I changed the font to white and typed in the info).

I uploaded the file to (96 MB) to the printer (printingforless.com).

You can also save it to disc and take it to a printer.

Re: Engagement Announcement Question

We didn't send out announcements. We got engaged in November and sent out save the dates in January. Honestly, no one I know has ever sent out engagement announcements.

We did put ours in our 2 local papers. That's just what you do in our town and that's usually the first thing people read every week after the obituaries of course
