Engagement Brunch

Engagement Brunch

So my family is throwing FI and I an engagement brunch at the Milleridge Inn this weekend....

We are really excited....but.....FI parents have not been in the same room in 9 years and his mom absolutely hates his dads new wife and their 2 1/2 year old. I am so scared about what is going to happen. The baby is going to be running around and his mom is going to freak out! I think she may throw some punches at FI stepmom.

I told my bridal party they need to act as buffers all day...we are so scared

Re: Engagement Brunch

I think FH needs to sit down with each parent individually and tell them that the day is about you and him and not them...

ask them if they will keep to their separate sides - in preparation for the wedding...

Make sure that if anything happens that FH (or maybe your dad or another male family member) will be prepared to tell whoever makes a scene to leave...

btw...my grandfather threw out his BIL from my parents wedding b/c he got drunk...my parents didn't even know

i had the same issue - FI's parents hadn't seen each other in 10+ years and to say there is bad blood between FMIL and FI's step-mother is an understatement!!! have to say though - everyone acted like an adult. there was no drama, no issues, nothing.

whether you can sit down with them and ask them to behave for you will depend on them - FH did that with his parents and it kind of worked - FMIL told people that FSMIL stole her husband (only told 2 people and VERY quietly so it didn't cause a scene) but what worked for us was to sit them as far apart as possible and in a way that they couldn't see each other and that worked great.

Listen - Ask you BP to watch them and if necessary to VERY quietly remind them that this is your day and if that doesn't work to ask them to leave.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it - I spend a lot of heart ache worrying about how it will work and the funny part was the person who caused the trouble was a totally different person!!

It will work out - and if something happens you probably WON'T even know about it I promise you.

Thanks for the kind words ladies...the only person who really would cause a scene would be FMIL. She says all this stuff but I really cant see her doing anything.

Its really nice to know others are going through similar situations. Thanks again!

Christine-its been so long since i have seen that....
