Hi again! I need some opinions on an engagement dinner location... Originally we were thinking of having a party, but we would really much rather have just a dinner sometime soon to have both immediate families and the bridal parties meet (some people have some people haven't).. I'd love to keep it super small because we want to foot the bill but its seeming impossible because his immediate family is eight mine is 5 and after the groomsmen and bridesmaids we have 20!!! Anyone have any low-price but decent places I could have this many people? Preferably south shore Nassau (we live in rvc area)
Also, any opinions on wether we should foot the bill or not since its really our immediate families and closest friends??

We are planning the same thing (family and bridal party only). We're looking at a bill of about $1000 for a sit down meal for about 30 people. Before I commit to this one restaurant that I love (in Smithtown-suffolk county) I want to look around to see if I can get a slightly better deal.
We are going to be paying for most, if not all. My mother said she'd do what she can to help.
I want a small dinner so my parents (mom/stepdad & dad/stepmom) can meet my future in laws in a nice simple setting WITH A TIME LIMIT. my parents haven't been in the same room together in 6 years. The e-dinner is stressing me out the most, honestly.

From my understanding, OP, it's a personal choice about who foots the bill. I've heard of others hosting it for the couple or the couple hosting it themselves.
I haven't really decided on an engagement dinner. I'd love to have one but I'm worried about the cost getting too out of hand. The max number of guests I'd want to have is 50 (and that's the ULTIMATE max). I live in Queens so I think making everyone schlep to Manhattan would be a bit much, plus the city is so expensive!

There's a part of me that just really has a hard time paying something like $1000 for dinner .. Even though that sounds like a reasonable budget haha. I'm glad to see other people in the same boat as me!
But would there be any way to invite people and have then under the assumption that they are paying for themselves and we just treat everyone to.. Lets say.. Half the bill? I just don't know how to go about these things!

If you are inviting people out to celebrate your engagement, you pay for them, even if they're immediate family. I think it would be rude to tell people 'hey, come out and celebrate but you have to pay.' Are either of your parents willing to chip in, that could cut costs a lot. Or does anyone you know have a big enough home for 20 people? You could just do a really nice dinner party which would probably be a lower cost but at the same time would be a lovely party.

we are doing ours at Kumo in Stony Brook, they give you three different choices in the menu, 16.99 19.99 and 25.99 pp , those are for lunch prices, the dinner prices and on Sundays they are more expensive (19.99 - 29.99)

We had our rehearsal dinner at Ciao Baby on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa and it was awesome! They don't have a private room but they did set up our tables in a private area away from the regular diners. We had about 20 people and it came to around $900 -- that included one of their meal packages (appetizers, salad, main course, dessert) and a separate bar tab that we picked up because it was cheaper than getting an alcohol package added!

I love ciao baby!! But so expensive.
I actually just booked an engagement lunch!!! MacArthur park in rvc has a private room, it's a family favorite for us. We will be having it feb 10 and I'm both excited and nervous for everyone to meet!

We did ours at Kumo too!! Our first date was at a hibachi place! It was loads of fun! Especially watching my grandma do shots of saki! We had about 30 family and bridal party and we did an open bar type deal and our bill was just over 1000 with tip. Check out my pics!
