I need help, we are going to an engagement party for my DH cousin who is not registered anywhere yet. What is a nice gift for the couple? We have no clue.
Thanks

I totally agree. They will probably be strapped for cash while planning a wedding so this is a great idea!

We got some neat things, different books, quoted for couples, Bride and Grooms 1st cookbook, you could always get the picture frame where you put a pic of the couple and their wedding invitation, toasting flutes, etc..there are lots of things to choose from

Well if they are paying for the wedding themselves I would give cash.... Just because they may need it. If not the Vera Wang Wedding Collection is really nice.... Like the cake cutter, picture frame, champagne flutes etc..... and not that expensive. I think each item is $60.

Re: Engagement gift?
cash.
We also weren't registered yet when we had our eparty (wedding was 2 years later) and cash was the BEST gift we received! We used it as the deposit for our hall, photographer, and videographer

Ok, I agree, CASH.
We had a party July 3rd, and while we got some lovely vases, candles, and frames, I now have to store them for 2 years.
My sister (MOH) gave us toasting flutes, which we used that day and will use again for the wedding, my grandmother gave us a lenox album that I put all the e-party pics in, we received 2 gift cards (BBB and LnT), but everything else will be boxed up and brought out in a couple years.
One of FH's Aunts made us a 'lucky in love' basket - in addition to some cash and wine, she got a TON of lottery tickets (most were WIN FOR LIFE), hoping that we'd win a couple bucks! And thats exactly what we did --- $4.
The cash, however, was put in a high interest CD, and is earning decent interest. We're paying for the majority of the wedding, so every little bit helps.

Re: Engagement gift?
Honestly, give them cash! In all honesty that is the best thing to give them, either your helping them pay for the wedding, bills, a house, an appartment, or new dishes, your helping them out. If you don't have a lot of money to spend or you feel money isn't the right thing, why not give them a gift basket, or maybe some wine, or chocolates. If you are going to do the gift card thing, why not at a supermarket, or a store you know they like, or a department store like target or walmart.
so if you give cash what do you think is a good amount ???? I have an engagement party this weekend for cousins, but we aren't very close, I do not want to seem cheap, so whats a good amount?

Re: Engagement gift?
I would either give cash or a gift card to a place like Target. Even if they never register, they are sure to need household stuff and Target is a great place for that. We got a few target giftcards from people who didn't come to the wedding and we got stuff for the house for Christmas (tablecloths, stocking holders, etc.) that will remind me of those people whenever I take them out.
ETA: I think the people who gave us cash gave $100-150 per couple
