OMG! I am soooooooo terrible! One of my closest friends got engaged months ago (I am ebarrassed to tell you how many) and I STILL have yet to get her a gift. Its one of those scenarios where I wanted to get something different and special so I kept looking waiting to find the right thing and well.... now its just ridiculous. I didn't get all that many so I can't use my own experience. The things I loved were my toasting flutes and a bottle of DOM champaigne. I would love to give her that too but she was the one that gave me that gift!!! HAHAHAHA!!! I can't copy her and give her the same gift!
Anyway, what did you girls get that you absolutely loved or you at least thought was very thoughtful or sweet?
I will take any ideas at this point b/c they have to be better than what I have come up with... : (
Thanks!

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
most of our stuff came from the registry... but at my friends bridal shower, one of the BMs gave her a basket of ornaments, with each one having a special meaning... that is something every new couple starting out needs... or if they are jewish you can get them a beautiful manorah...

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
i just thought of something else... since FH and I are broke since we are saving for the wedding, we never go out to eat anymore...what if you got them a gift certificate to a nice restauarant or tickets to the movies with it so they can have a date night together...
out of the stuff we got that wasnt on the registry, most of it was stuff we really didnt want or could use and ended up in a box in the basement...

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
Try going for an experience, like a wine tasting class, a dance lesson, a cooking class etc... these life experiences will be the most memorable and will be fun.

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
Wow. I like all those ideas. The wine tasting especially. Nice dinners are great but her FH has a serious condition that unfortunately makes it very difficult for him to eat anything in large quantities so those things go to waste : (. But they do like wine!!!
Here are some other things Hubby and I came up with yesterday (we were brainstorming):
1. A really really nice bottle of red wine (anyone know of a good one?)
2. Sears gift certificate (sounds bad but they are trying to buy a console for their TV and are looking here to buy so.....)
3. Something from Vera Wang .... maybe a crystal frame????
Anyway, what do you guys think? Is the sears thing silly? Any wine choices? And is $100 enough? I wanted to get them something that cost $300 and hubby flipped out.

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
$100 is defintely enough. I am not a wine conossiuer but maybe to go along with the wine (if they don;t already have it) get them a very easy to use wine opener. I got this for a coworker with a bottle of wine and she LOVED it.

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
Thank you- the dress is Amsale... A great bottle of red wine would be St.Francis Cabernet or Yellow Tail Shiraz. They are delicious and affordable. This would be a great pairing with a wine tasting class. You would have to research where they are held but it is extremely thoughtful.

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
If they like wine- there is a great place in Port Jeff called 'Toast'. It's a lounge, you can order cheeses and stuff, and just drink wine. That might be a nice place to get a gift certificate to. If they are nowhere near PJ, I'm sur ethere are more places like this... Good luck! I too share the burden of the perfect gift hunting!

Re: Engagement gift ideas?
Or if you want to slurge on a bottle of red- try a Caymus Cabernet or Joseph Phelps. Also-there are some yummy apertifs or dessert wines: a Brachetto or Bonny Doon Muscat Vin Di Glaciere, or for a slurge try Inniskillin Ice Wine. Hope this is helpful.
