Personally I would return anything that wasn't wasn't used.

My sister's first wedding was cancelled after her shower and this is what she did.

Were they cash gifts or like gifts off the registry?

Did you spend the money towards the wedding? If so then I wouldn't attempt to return it you lost it to sadly. If you banked it then I would return it.

Yeah unfortunately even money. I called off an engagement going back 5 years and I had to return $8k to people. I was writing out checks for days. Gifts are supposed to go back too.

ETA: the reasoning is that someday you will get married and these friends and family are going to have to give you gifts again...

Re: Engagement gifts

if you can i guess you should.

my friend called off her wedding last year about 2 months before and i never received anything. Honestly, i was not offended, I was just happy she made the right decision and that I was not going to have to give $300 or more for a wedding gift when it seemed like a very questionable relationship.

Re: Engagement gifts

I call ed a wedding three months before .... our engagement was a year and ahalf and we didn't give any of the gifts back we were living together and it all was opened or lost on deposits. I hadn't had a shower yet. I f I did I would return those gifts.

Was there an eparty or did people just send gifts when they found out you were enagaged?

are you sure you want to rush into that?? i read your post from this morning but is there ANY chance FH will come around??

Re: Engagement gifts

I guess you technically should. But I would NEVER expect a gift back. The person is already going throuhg a rough time, so the last thing I would want is for them to worry about returning a gift!

Same here. But you don't have to do anything immediately. I'm sure anyone that gave you an e-gift is more concerned with your well-being and your time to heal than getting back something.

Take your time, see what happens. No need to worry about this right now.

maybe someone can help do that for you so you do not have to?

I would return the gifts and money. Just take your time. I'm sure people aren't going to be knocking down your door. Hope everything works out sweetie.
