Re: Engagement Parties
Traditionally it is the brides parents. But nowadays people do many different things. His parents can host, another close family member or friends.

Re: Engagement Parties
ok traditionally, the brides parents pay for the engagement party. however, for fh and I, we footed the bill, because my parents and his mom both did not have the ability to pay.. I loved my engagement party, and am so glad that we had one. My family and FH family came together and met for the first time!

Re: Engagement Parties
since our families are 400 miles apart, my family is throwing one, and his parents are throwing one.

Re: Engagement Parties
we hosted our own. we didn't bother with wedding rules..ie: who pays for what and when... We paid for own party in a hall and paid for 1/2 of the food. His parents surprised by paying for our DJ. And his parents got the food for his side of the family.. (their from Haiti)
With the wedding we've paid for 95% of it so far. His parents surprised us again with a check to pay off our HM to hawaii.. and my mom paid for my dress and bridal shower location. And I'm sure they'll help us out some more down the road.. (a very short road, as our wedding is less than 3mths away). When you don't expect something from someone... the gift of them giving you as a surprise is the best!

Re: Engagement Parties
my parents, my MIL and we all chipped in for our e-party. I don't think there is a traditional thing.

Re: Engagement Parties
You can pay for it yourself but let someone host, such as your parents. You're not supposed to host your own, but you can pay for it that is fine. E-parties are to honor the couple and etiquette wise you should not throw a party in honor of yourself
