Who is having one and what are you doing to make it different than your wedding?
I have a few ideas for ours...
-we are coming out to a spanish house song and kind of walking around sort of waving to everyone then we are going to start dancing and the DJ will ask everyone to join. I will ask the BP to jump in at this time to psych up the guests.
-Having a guestbook passed around for people to write words of wisdom for us.
-Cake cutting to a minimum. I don't want to make it a scene when it is time for it. THe party must continue!
-Hand outs of those stupid party things DJ's do. FH and I might walk out with maracas in our hands and give one to each BP member when they join us in dancing so that will add to the excitement of the entrance and the first dance (per say)

Re: Engagement Parties
I am having one. It will be on my sister's deck (she has a huge deck) under a white tent with lots of candles and flowers, it will be much smaller than my actual wedding and the setting will obviously be completely different. I didn't want and couldn't afford a catering hall style E-Party, I feel like it is a mini-wedding (=too much stress for me). Of course, this is just my personal taste, I have been to some catering hall E-Parties that have been beautiful! Even if you have your E-Party in a catering hall there are lots of things you can do to make it different from a wedding, I like the idea of a more intimate, cocktail party type atmosphere with no assigned seating.

Re: Engagement Parties
we also opted to do somehting a little different. we've been to a few e-parties at halls that were great. but we wanted to do something a little less expensive and something more our style. we're going to have an afternoon e-party at one of our favorite rest/pubs that has a catering area in it. doing buffet stlye w/ open bar. just a really nice way to get everyone together. some of the bridal party hasn't met yet so this will be a great opportunity!

Re: Engagement Parties
I wish I could do that. Unfortunately my family and friends are all drinkers and partyers and a party that my family throws cannot be without those two. It would have helped save $$$ too!
Theresa where are you? I know yours will be wilder than mine!

Re: Engagement Parties
i like your idea with the guest book! i'd rather do something like that at the e-party and write a little message then just to have people sign it at the wedding.

Re: Engagement Parties
I had mine already. It was very casual. We had a bbq/pool party in my backyard. We did not give any favors or do anything that special. it was just to get the two families to meet.

Re: Engagement Parties
I think I'm having a BBQ eparty in the summer 1 year before our wedding. It'll be something casual just close family. I just want everyone to get together and have a good time. We'll probably announce who will be in the bridal party. Maybe we'll have the priest come over and do a blessing. I'm not sure yet.

Re: Engagement Parties
My fi and I had one... it was pretty informal - it was at his house and it was just family (there wasn't enough room to start inviting friends)... we didn't want something in a hall because we thought it would take away from the big day if we did that.
