What is everyones opinion on having an engagement party in the same year as the wedding.
I don't know if I want to have one since it would be asking a lot of the guests.
What do you all think???

Re: Engagement Parties
Same year is a little iffy- You should want and most deifnately get to celebrate the engagement but depending on the time of the year youd go from e party to bridal shower to wedding in what might be a short span of time, Why not try to have an eparty as soon as possible so there not all too close together, dont be offended this is just my opinon. When did you get engaged? and congrats !

Your not getting married until next year....Have one:) I think the more times the families have to interact the better.

Re: Engagement Parties
how close are we talking?
Both in the same year might be a lot unless its very early in the year and the wedding was at the end of the year. I see u have May 2011 listed so it might be too close if you wait til the beginning of the year to have an e-party. If you have your engagement party between now and say Oct/November you should be fine. Good luck!

Re: Engagement Parties
Well I had been against it for that reason, but people are asking me. We will be engaged a year in June. We had to wait to set a date for financial reasons with this economy so I feel like we may have missed our window to have one. We most likely won't do it for those reasons.

Re: Engagement Parties
you can still do have one this year. Don't say that. If you have it in the summer you still have almost a year from your wedding. I would definitely try to do it by October but its not too late. Even if you have a party at our house you should still have it if thats what u want.

Re: Engagement Parties
If you've already been engaged almost a year, I probably wouldn't have one. I'm sure that people who wanted to give you a gift and celebrate with you already have. Now having a party might look like a second solicitation for stuff.

Re: Engagement Parties
I completely disagree. If you have not been able to celebrate by having even a small engagement party I would make one this summer. I think 2011 is a little much IMO but this summer is fine!!! Just enjoy and be happy !!!

Re: Engagement Parties
If you are having financial problems already, I would forgo the eparty...its not necessary and you'd be better off putting the money towards the wedding (unless you feel like your guests are going to be REALLY generous and you'll make out like bandits at the eparty)
