Engagement Party?

Engagement Party?

My fiance and I got engaged in October and had been thinking of having an engagement party/dinner in a restaurant. We decided to wait until after the holidays since it was too much all at once. Our wedding is in May 2005. Now we have been discussing it and we don't know whether or not to bother- the immediate family on both sides have given us gifts. I don't know if it is a waste to have an engagement party now. Who had engagement parties? Did you feel it was worth it? Where did you have it?

Thanks :)

Congratulations on your engagement! We did not have an engagement party and I've always kind of regretted it. I'd say have one!! :)

We had an E-party. It was fun. Got engaged Dec. 22 2001. Had our e-party Aug. 2002. and getting married june 26 2004. We didnt make it a big deal. Rented the back hall at a firehouse (which was so pretty) and had a dj.

I say Go for it.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of having it in a firehouse by us. (My fiance's whole family, including himself are volunteers- his dad a commissioner, lol- figured it would be easiest place to have it!), have the food catered and play some music. Awww I'm excited now, lol Thanks girls!!!!

We had one and I'm glad we did. We did the backyard thing and it was a lot of fun. It was a cold weekend in October so we had to rent a tent and heaters, which made it a little pricey, but the tent was so cool! I wanted to keep it in my backyard for the whole winter!

We had one and I'm very glad we did too. We had ours at Chateau La Mer about 2 months after we got engaged. We had a DJ but it was a small affair with only about 50 people or so. It was so much fun!!

Congratulations! You got engaged on my wedding day
We had an engagment party and it was so worth it! It was so much fun and it was great to get everyone together. I think that you have enough time until your wedding that you totally should.
We had ours a Vito's in Long Beach. The food was amazing, and they had a DJ who was a lot of fun.

We're having one at FI's Community Room at his co-op complex...it was supposed to be small, but now we have over 100 people! We're having it catered, made our own invites and favors, and are just playing some music (no dj)

I think if you want one, Go for it, but we didnt have one and dont feel any twinge of regret because of it. My FH HATES being the center of attention so he didnt want one. I didnt want one becuase (and this is of no offense to anyone who had one) I feel they are too much to ask of people (to give a gift at the e-party, then invite them to the shower, and then to the wedding) I felt that people would give us a gift for our engagment if they wanted to but should feel forced to give us one. Again this is JMO! Plus with our engagment being 11 months it really would have been too much for everyone! IMO!!

i didn't have one and i don't regret it at all. my parents ended up having small groups of people over to celebrate. the people that wanted to send gifts did so, and my fiance and i were very grateful. for me having a party wasn't about getting gifts, and i sort of felt that people would feel that they had to get us a gift if we had a party. i don't regret it at all.

Re: Engagement Party?

I have debated this as well, you can see from my posts. I am ultimetly having one so our families can meet. He has a large family and I cannot have a lot of people over to meet mine, nor do I have the time. I think most of our family and friends know why we are doing it, we don;t want gifts out of it, and we hope to enjoy the whole wedding/engagement process and think a party will be fun. I guess it depends on why and where etc...Godd luck, I'm sure you'll get some good advice!
