Did most of you girls have an engagement party? My fiance's parents said they would like to throw us one in a couple of months so that our families can meet. Ive never met them before. I was thinking that we couldnt have one because we have been engaged for over 3 months now - is it still OK? I know that fiances parents are going to want to have an over the top gala and Im not sure how i feel about that. I dont want it to over shadow the wedding itself.

We got engaged in Dec, and had our party in May, that is when all the parents decided to do it, during the nicer weather. I think it would still be okay to do it.

It is never too late to have one!!!
Ours is June 6th and it is going to be an intimate party with food, beer, chips and music. Just a meet and greet type of thing.

We got engaged last March and we had ours in August. It was just when the timing worked for everyone. It's fine if it's a few months after! You will have a great time! -KELLY

We are having a small one May 8th and got engaged March 16th.
A friend of mine got engaged last March and had hers in September.

We got engaged in December and had the party in March. I think it's fine when ever you want to have it.

We got engaged at the end of January and are having our e-party in June...we wanted to wait for the weather to get nice, and FINALLY found a weekend that worked for everyone!!!...I am really looking forward to it!

The timing is fine, but you should talk to your FILs about the type of party it will be. If you don't want a big shin dig, ask them to please keep it low key and casual so the families are really able to get to know one another.

It is absolutely ok to have it now... I had mine about a month after we were engaged and it was so much fun.. We joked that I should have just shown up in my wedding gown and got married becuase there was so many guest there.. i think it will be a nice way for you to get to know everyone

we did a small bbq for the parents to meet...no gifts were given....very informal.
technically, if you have an e-party you aren't supposed to have a shower.

We got engaged 2/14 and we're having our E Party on May 16 at a nice resteraunt.

We had a very nice back yard e-party. THe local pizza shop catered. It was very 'nice'. People wore shorts, there was a keg. It was casual. My FH didn't want AN EVENT He wanted a nice get together.
ETA: We got engaged December of '99 and didn't have our e-party until July of '01. We aren't getting married until Oct '04. If you are going to have one, I'd have it before the end of the year.

We were engaged on Valentines day and had our E-party in September. We really wanted to have it on a River Boat so we waited till after the last weekend of summer :)

We're not having one. FH doesn't want people to feel obligated to give us present. I really wanted one, but only because I love parties and get togethers. I was talking to my mom this last weekend, and I would like to have a family get together with just our immediate families, a BBQ or something. Hopefully he'll agree to that.
