For those of you having an E-Party, where / what are you having???
I am trying to figure out a fun, inexpensive way for all of our families to get together and meet each other.
We've toyed with the ideas of a backyard party, or a catering hall.
We're looking for: inexpensive, unlimited or self-provided alcohol, catered or self-provided food, about 50-60 people.
Any suggestions??
Thanks ladies!!!

Re: Engagement Party
We had it in our backyard..and big BBQ. Our friends and family were all there, it was very laid back. Perfect for us. As the night went on the family all left and the friends hung out til the wee hours of the morning :)
We cooked a lot of food and set up a table w/ the food and sternos too. I made most of the food but my BMs also chipped in to help...one made a tray of meatballs, another made a cake and another made apps. We supplied all the alcohol but beer isnt too much $ when you watch for it to go on sale (like we did) and even though we told our friends not to bring any alcohol, most of them did.

Re: Engagement Party
Our e-party is April 23, at a small catering hall in Rockaway Park. It's going to be a buffet, with open bar. We'll be doing a beach theme, b/c the place is on the beach!
I actually inquired at a few different places, but this was the only one that had the date we wanted available.
FM if you want to know what places I looked at!
Good Luck!!

Re: Engagement Party
We're having one up in Boston, that's where the FH is from. We're having it a a local hall (french-american club) and his family is doing the cooking. We are doing a hawaiian/tropical theme to dress it up, but it's going to be low key and low budget! I think the hall costs $100 and the rest is up to us to decide what to spend. Firehouses are another great place to use

Try the Elks lodg in Huntington Village, the room is nice, my friends and i have had a few halloween parties there. The food is good and you get open bar with a bartender

Re: Engagement Party
We had ours at The Pavillion in Sunken Meadow State Park (Northport/Fort Salonga). It's a Lessings property. It was really beautiful! We had a beach theme, and barbeque food... and it wasn't all that expensive.

Re: Engagement Party
I'm still undecided about having one. We've been engaged since June 2004, we live together and we're on our 2nd child (due in June, I CAN'T WAIT!!). I don't see the point. If we do go ahead and have one it'll probally be in our back yard. I can't see paying all that money into a catering hall, when you have so much other planning to do.

Re: Engagement Party
We had ours in my parent's back yard last April, b/c I really wanted it to be at home. We had about 80 people, and by the time my parents paid for the caterer, renting chairs, tables, a tent, heaters (it was in April, so you you never know), hiring servers, hiring bartenders, etc....I have to say it would have been a lot less money to have had it in a restaurant. However, I have to say that I wouldn't have wanted it any other way and it ended up absolutely perfect.

Our friends had a Hawaiian party in their parents backyard. They built a tiki bar and everyone had to come in costume and they gave out leis (sp?) and had Hawaiian lanters and decorations all over, it was pretty cool

Re: Engagement Party
We are having ours at Bidgeview Yacht Club on a Sat afternon. There is a ton of food and open bar with specialty drinks, all-in-all the cost is around $45 for the base package (which is more food than I will probably have at my own weddings and at half the cost!). I have tried to attach pictures of the upstairs room which will hold 50 to 75 people.
