How soon before your wedding do you have an engagement party? I'm getting married in June 2007

you should do it aprox. a year in advance of the wedding

I would say you can do it anytime. I did mine 8 months before (FH and his mom really wanted to have one, just BP and immediate family) and I didn't think it was necessary at all, but we did it and it was ok.

i heard it was 2-4 months within your engagement.. but you can do it whenever you want to.
i got engaged oct 2, had eparty on dec 4, getting married on may 5 & 22.
my sister got engaged on feb 13, had eparty on june 5, and got married on feb 26.

I think a few months after engagment is the norm. But if you have a short engagement under a year most people do not have one.

Usually a year is a good time to do the engagement party.. have you picked a place yet?

I think usually not long after you get engaged. We had our in August for a Nov. wedding, but we had to have it in a backyard, and the first week of August was the best date for everyone involved. We really just had it so that both sides of the family could meet at least once before the wedding and it was a small gathering.
I didn't have a bridal shower, though, so for us it worked out OK. I think if you are planning on having a shower, you shouldn't plan these things too close together - it is a lot to ask from people in such a short period of time, in my opinion.
