Engagement Party

Engagement Party

How many of you had one? My family never did that, but my FH's family is REALLY into it. I agreed to have one, but now he is giving me a hard time about when and where. My parents don't want to spend that much since it's not something they had planned on doing in the first place, but are very understanding and willing to pay for it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a non-expensive restaurant in nassau? My parents suggested the Sat after thanksgiving, but he thinks it too close to a holiday. He wants to wait until Jan. At that point there's no point in having one. Isn't the point of an e-party to celebrate the engagement?

Re: Engagement Party

We had an engagement dinner with just the immediate family. . brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. We still had over 50 people we rented a room in a restaurant and had dinner, cake and drinks. It was very personable and easy to plan. HTH and good luck planning!

We had it catered in my backyard - it worked out really well

Re: Engagement Party

I wanted to have a tent in my backyard with the sides and heaters (since it will be chilly), but my parents vetoed that. My dad wasn't to keen on the idea. Neither of our houses are big enough to hold over 50 people. He's got a really big family.

mine was a backyard party, we had about 100 people but had enough room... A restaurant for over 50 people will run you alot of $$$... Maybe try renting a VFW hall and catering the food. It'll run you about $5k after food/drinks, decorations, favors, invites etc...

It wasn't that much money but we also worked out a deal with them. Open bar and maybe try and get a set menu. It's going to cost you money no matter which route you go but you have to look into it before you set anything in stone. HTH

We had our engagement party last November -- the Sunday after Thanksgiving actually. We had ours at Piccola Bussola on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington. It was $38pp. After all was said and done, with tax, gratuity, and drinks, it ran about $3K for 60 people.

We had ours by FH's in Brooklyn. Try Pompei in West Hempstead. We just had my sisters bridal shower there and they were very reasonable and the food was great!!!

Re: Engagement Party

We didn't have an engagement party, however, my FMIL did make us a dinner, and brought it downstairs for us to enjoy alone. I'd much rather have my mom spend the money on something I really wanted as opposed to just having a dinner party with family and friends. Besides, we can look forward to our Rehearsal Dinner, which is going to be a blast!!

We had one too, but it was small.. about 20 ppl. We didn't even include our BP, we just had immediate family and went to a really nice restaurant in Astoria.

i WISH WE COULD HAVE HAD ONE, BUT WITH TEH MONEY PROBLEMS WE DECIDED NOT TO. HIS FAMILY GAVE US SOME MONEY AS ENGAGMENT PRESENTS AND MY FAMILY GAVE US SOME TOO...IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE WEDDING PART 1 ANYWAYS

My engagement party was with just my parents , sisters and their families along with FH and his parents and brother. It was at FH parents house and we had so much fun. I really did not want one but our families wanted to give us presents for the wedding.

We had an engagement party at my FIL's house over the summer...It was outside, we did most of the cooking, and it was very casual...a very good time had by all! (And lots of gifts!!)

Re: Engagement Party

We got engaged in May and are having ours in October.

We decided to have one because my family is huge and his is pretty small, it felt like a good idea to allow everyone an opportunity to meet before the shower and wedding.

Try Mim's in Roslyn or in Syosset (they have 2 locations). The prices seemed really reasonable to me.
